Hello everyone, I have a question...how many times did you guys take the cdl permit before you actually got it? I'm trying to get on with Swift & the academy they are sending me to is located in Millington,Tn. Swift has asked me to obtain my D.O.T physical (which I passed) and also my permit before arriving. The problem is & I'm very embarrassed to say is that I have attempted this test 3 (yes) 3x's and failed each time. I don't know if this is a sign to give up or what. I really do wanna get into the trucking industry but I kinda feel like to obtain the permit before hand is like taking the high school graduation test w/out ever been in high school before.

I had a woman in my class who could not pass the test until the instructors realized she could answer every question when they asked her but she got most of them wrong if she read them. So, they had her use the headphones to take the test and she passed with ease. Maybe that would help you?

Have you tried the practice test on this site? They are very helpful.

take each section individually, if you can focus on one sec and take the test for only that section. i was able to do that and i would think it would help but as theese guys said it not a gimmie yiu must actually study. there are practice tests in the cdl manual and if you cant answer at least these then you should not even be trying the real test. hope it works out for you and good luck.

Hi papawheelie, I've read & studied till I was blue in the face. I passed Swift online test & also passed Driver Solution test. So I don't know what the problem is except that I'm not getting it done :-( I've been told there is a such as studying to hard and maybe that's what I'm doing.

my two cents is the questions are poorly written and for me what matters is extensive working knowledge of rules & regs such as FMCSA as well as all the sites you can find like that, no less important is case decisions though those harder to find - I passed driving with 92 with only few hours practice loops but took over a month and two tries to pass written .... 3x 's is sorta something I would not mention but is sure not a reason to give up -- just my opinion, others will disagree but you are right about testing at the end of your post

Hey, jamesh1979, I didn't know you were allowed to take them individual. If I had known I'm sure that would have helped but as previousily stated I have been studying & I've been studting hard. I know its not gonna be easy & I don't expect it to but I'm gonna get it done just was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

Hi nicolas_jordan, Your "2 cents" was well taken, thanks & your right its not a reason to give up & I promise that I won't. As far as the mention of 3x's, I've had someone tell me it took him 3x's & the lady at the dmv says she had a guy try 8 before he got it but I was thinking maybe that was their way of trying to tell me not to give up but again I have no intention of doing that at all.

sounds good ~ if you pass then you pass - what I would look for in anyone is "can they handle the truck" ..... I would be very concerned with putting the effort on study of rules and regs, there are fora here for that ( fora is plural of forum ) ..... if you have cdl in hand as well as physical I would go ahead and start calling recruiters but FFE is the only recruiter I have found so far worth my time - other than Schneider ..... if you can get on "city delivery" somewhere while doing studies that helps you driving though does not count for CDL ( as far as I know ) and though the tests vary some from state to state any you should get the study manual from your state agency having juris res ... the tests are somewhat uniform and usually directly lifted from some group at a national level that I lost the name of

whatever DMV says is generally senior to what others say, it does not matter what someone says, the only thing that matters is what the law says: Not by word nor deed but by badge alone.
