Will OTR carriers accept LTL experience? I am thinking about switching over and see the country for a few years.

I am more then positive they would. as long as you have experience in a truck and a clean record, thats what i have found most OTR companies look at. My best advice is to call an OTR company you really dont want to work for an ask them if they consider LTL experience less then they would OTR experience. But i am sure you will find even if they do, their biggest concern is whether or not you are able to control a rig safely. Also how often your loads were on time and your record with your previous employer.

road_runner Thanks this. -
if it was local sometimes they consider your experience as half so 1 year local will only be 6 mos exp
OK_Boot Thanks this. -
I was OTR back in 2004, then; worked local driving job doing LTL in Chicagoland for 7 yrs, then a month ago I went back to OTR. Company didn't give me any problems at all with going back. (My company is not very large; we have 46 trucks). Bigger companies will prolly send u out as student for a couple weeks. I have spotless MVR and DAC but let me tell you; I hadn't crossed a scale in 7 yrs or had to write a log book for just as long and I don't quite remember the correct ways to go thru the coops in certain states so I got called in back and had to listen to DOT reminding me that Ohio is not the 25 mph bypass like Arkansas is............LMAO. GOOD LUCK; OTR IS LOTS MORE FUN THAN LOCAL - HOPE YOU GET THE JOB.

It is nice to be home at night. But honestly, I don't have a problem living out of a truck. I've spent months at a time living out of a tent in Iraq with a bunch of people... This should be a lot better. Just tired of running the same routes everyday.

I hear ya there..........same routes get old after awhile........Plus: I sleep better in the truck than at home.....GOOD LUCK
