chompi,
all day i have been looking at other companies and reading what they offer and such, sent out a couple applications. nah he doesn't know anyone who works for cre but his best friend is a driver trainer at crst, erin of crst called today. his friend says crst is last place i should go, says i would get harrassed daily, hourly, that people up there are scum. kind of annoys me cuz he thinks i cannot take care of myself. he has quit training women due to issues with previous ladies wanting more than just a work friendship.
CR England drivers, any advice????

Keep doing your homework! I would reserve England as your last choice if possible...

cyn Happy Trucking & Good Luck! lol Nothing wrong with femme drivers as long as use common sense! It was my older sister, dating an O/O at the time, who taught me "How To Drive" out of sheer necessity . . . turned out she liked Ho Jo's plus Pina Coletta's way too much and was happy to snooze in bunk!
I live in Sharpsburg heading for Ceder Hill Tx this Sun . . .
. . . will let know How It Goes !
Ya know CR England has free practice tests here: ( http://www.crengland.com/truckdrivingschools/index.jsp?page=/etools/corp_tests/tst_front_web )
(ps: at one point in time tried to teach my "ex" but now she says wayyy tooo afraid to even attempt it at all )Last edited: Nov 3, 2012

thats how cre is. trust me. i used to be a trainer. phase 1 & 2. no, they don't allow company drivers to have pets. if you are going to join your husband with kennesaw......dont lease from cre. just go company. get 6 months, and get out.cyn1123 Thanks this.

well boys, like many of you suggested i have done some research, and big huge thanks to Chompi! you have given me so much advice and its been so helpful! i have chosen to go with Central Refridgerated, i start my one week in Conley Ga, which is great since it is only an hour away from me, then they send me out to Salt Lake City Utah for the rest of practice driving, bookwork, my permit and my license then 5 weeks with a trainer and i am on my own. ONE THING THOUGH! i am nervous about the CDL test, what should i expect? i know the pretrip is a verbal test between me and the "test giver" haha only word i can think of.
chompi Thanks this. -
I dunno how they will do it where you are. When I took my test in Ohio it consisted of the pretrip. Then was the backing maneuvers. Those consisted of the straight line back, and then a changeover type thing don't exactly remember the name for it and the last part is you either do a parallel park or a alley dock.
I think probably everybody is nervous I know I was when they are in the truck doing all these things though for the test. You just have to try and block that out and remember everything you have learned and that you can do all of it because it's all stuff that you have practiced tons of times.cyn1123 Thanks this. -
I'm sure you will do just fine. It by no means is rocket science! There are many practice tests on the internet you can take that are just about the same as the real test. Driving is just going to take practice. When you are driving though, relax. Drive that truck as if you have for 20 years. Take everything nice and slow. Any mistake can easily be corrected if you give yourself ample time. When it comes to the pretrip test while you are practicing break every thing down into sections. Frame, suspension, motor, all hoses, lines and boats, wheels along with all components etc... Its like a game of memory, you pretty much just have to point at a part and name it then say check it. If you can give yourself a brief understanding of diesel mechanics it may help. Understanding what part does what will make it easier. An example would be that you know the motor turns a pulley, that pulley turns the fan, compressor, alternator etc... The alternator charges the battery, the compressor makes the air, the fan cools the truck and they are linked together by a belt. Tires are mounted on wheels which have brakes attached and spin on an axle. The axle is mounted to the frame by leaf spring suspension and the shocks help absorb the bumps. Inside the axles is oil to keep things running smooth and cool. On a big rig there is also air suspension. These are black, pillow like bags that are inflated with air just like a tire. The cab of the truck has them and so do axles of the truck. (the trailer also rides on them.) Sorry don't mean to get too in depth but this is just an example. You don't need to know about egr's and rings and pistons but just the basic outer workings of the motor will help get you buy. Just like driving it will take practice. Just because it is mechanical don't let it intimidate you. Its nothing more than memorizing, like a language or flowers or even cooking.
I'm stoked for you guys! Brings back good memories! You are going to absolutely love it out in Salt Lake! Where the terminal is located has the most impressive views! I have picts I took from the terminal in my profile. If at all possible when you head out to Salt Lake I would recommend flying instead of a bus. Central will reimburse the plane ticket up to the cost of a bus ticket. They have been known to pay the whole thing also. They really value husband/wife teams! Maybe tell them your husband is going to be joining you after awhile. I wouldn't let them know you are only there temporarily.
Anyway I think you will be quite impressed with Central. If you need anything just holler.cyn1123 Thanks this. -
chompi,
ive been trying to study, so much to remember and learn in the cdl manual! my husband is interested in going to central, he wouldnt mind. but we have 2 small dogs, and im not sure if they are a pet friendly company. right now he will be taking them with him while im doing my training. thank you for the advice and all the help, really eases my mind alot, im such a worry wart too lol -
Not sure about the current pet policy. They used to allow dogs and we brought our great dane with us. They will sometimes make exceptions for husband/wife teams mainly because they make them a lot of money. They may ask for a small deposit or some kind of monthly inspection on the truck to make sure it is staying up to par. A lot of drivers took advantage of the pet policy and many of them did not take care of their trucks. Bad enough there are some drivers that are pigs without pets!
We did some major favors for Central when we first got hired on and they really made some exceptions for us. Not only did they give us a brand new truck and allow us to have our over weight dog with us but the equipment manager actually babysat our dog while we ran brand new trucks to the terminal from the factory! This is one reason I really recommend Central, they really went above and beyond to help us out. No other company that I know of would have done that for us.
