I've heard that Millis Transfer is a good place to work. They have their own school.
slim shady Thanks this. -
Don't let not having a car stop you. If that means going to a company rather than a trade school or college then so be it. I cannot in good conscience recommend my company, or the one I initially got my CDL with.....so you are on your own there. -
Well, your circumstances may dictate you go with a company that provides training, since you don't have transportation for private school.
CLICK HERE for a list of trucking companies that hire new drivers.
Choose a good refrigerated company and go for it. The sooner you get started, the sooner you will be in the trucking workforce. Lots of good comments on here for Central Refrigerated & Roehl. Best wishes. -
Mesilla Valley Transport has their own school.
Panther Expedite no experience required.
Lots of opportunities; choose the one that is the best fit for you overall. -
If Panther has an option, this would be among my top 5, just based on what heard, no official recommendations. Based on what have read through these forums, choose the one that has best overall training if going company provided school. I also have heard that Marten was very good, and they have an excellent association with local public tech school in Chippewa Falls,WI. This probably be my 1st or second carrier to look at, real professional image there.
As a caveat, my personal take is to not believe anything these private schools hype, bar none,
trusts your instincts -
well the 160 drivin academy trains you to get your cdl but you can pick who you go to work for, i have already been told if i get my cdl that a company close to my home will hire me once i got my cdl and the pay starts out at . 34 cpm for reg. and the local work doesnt pay bad either anywhere from 600 to over a 1000 a week running local

I'm not sure which private schools you were referring to but my take on private schools is a lot different than yours. No contracts, no pressure to lease/buy a truck, no collection agencies or lawyers on the speed dial, no bus loads in or out, no one gets "dumped" out of the program and the variety of companies hiring gives students multiple choices.
Granted, not every private school is perfect but many of them rate far above the company sponsored programs and trucking company training. Also, you can always check on the private schools by contacting company recruiters and asking them which schools they recruit from - it's a good way to see if a school puts out quality. Look for reviews or testimonies on the schools - make sure they are current. Let me add, it's a heck of a lot easier to find a negative review on a company sponsored/truck company training school than it is to find one on a private school,
Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
Drive safe,

Fox Valley Tech in Appleton WI is an excellent one by far and worth waiting for, others in Wisconsin (Chippewa Valley Tech)and elsewhere I'd assume very similar
They will not hype anything, have an excellent group of companies to refer to, and talk about ultra reasonable rates? RUN!
