Hello everyone, my name is Anthony and I'm her interested in becoming a truck driver but I don't know how to Perdue it. I'm 20 years old and live on my own and can't really afford to quit my job to get the training I need. I need some pointers on how to get started and what company's to consider and what ones to completely avoid. I will be turning 21 in the next month so I want to get started ASAP.

I was in the same situation myself, I went with Prime inc. I think it was the best decision.

Iggy, consider the minimum age requirements for most companies. Plus, you need to be at least 21 years of age to operate a commercial vehicle between states (although you can drive in state at age 18).

Also take a read through the threads on this forum and see what this field has become. If I were your age, I'd haul my younger self off to college (by the nose if necessary), and go find a field that doesn't consider me to be the least valuable and easiest to replace portion of the operation....

Thanks for all the input guys! I'm currently kinda in the trucking industry, I load tanks trucks from rail are and I love the whole idea of being a truck driver seance my dad and grandfather are both drivers. However they don't like the idea of me becoming a driver. I told my dad a couple weeks ago that I wanted to be a driver and he said "so you don't want to be my son anymore? I've been out on the road for 25 years, I know what it's like and trust me, you don't want any of that" he is telling me with all the new rules and regulations that new drivers would never be able to make a good living like my grandfather and he did. I also talk to alot of the drivers I load and they say the same thing. I don't kno.... I guess I'll have to find out for myself.
