Roehl the inside scoop from orientation to training to driver

Not that I would stick at a company for 1800 miles per week, but make sure you know what you are jumping into. Things are slow all over right now, and companies that were hiring a month ago might be slowing it down. There is not a lot of work out there right now.

 

I don't blame you. I like working here but lately the miles are getting lower.

To repeat what I shared on the other thread, my Orientation (national van in Ellenwood) was postponed from Dec. 10th to the 31st. Was told this is true for all training locations and given the following reason by my recruiter:

"Freight is running a little slow at this time, and is due to the economy-waiting to see what Congress will do before the end of the year."

Hey Kash, If you haven't read this thread, check it out http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...tor/196745-would-you-consider-this-cheap.html I've been watching this thread on and off since the day you started it, basing my not-yet-made decision on which way to go in the trucking industry in no small part on your experience, as chronicled here. After I read the above thread, I'm somewhat convinced that maybe Roehl just doesn't HAVE the miles available to give you right now. I'm a BIG believer in Owner/Operators and independent truckers over MEGA-Carriers, mainly because of how much money a big carrier gets, compared to the size of the slice of the pie that the individual driver gets. And it's all driven by relentless greed. Look at it like this: If the Walton family took HALF of their yearly take, and instead put it on the paychecks of their employees, each of the 1.4 MILLION people they employ would make about ten grand more a year, and they would STILL be among the richest people in the world. BUT in a capitalist society like we have, you have a choice of who and who NOT to work for, and unfortunately, in order to gain the experience necessary to succeed in this industry, short of an inheritance, settlement, or hot lotto ticket, you're doing what 99% of us will have to do to make it. And then, what you have to look forward to is the greed of the brokers. The poor MORON that took that load for 5 grand is hating life but it's so cut-throat out there that he probably didn't have a choice (truck payment, insurance, etc..) It truly does suck out there, and it's all what you make of it. I wish you luck, really, as I'm not too far behind you.
