Backstory. I drove yrs ago for short periods. Someday I will post about Drivers test. 0) Anyway there was a repaired truck (stretch tractor with full sleeper, 22' box) needed to go from MN to TN. So I made a bid to do it for $800 (I was responsible for my ride home) They agree, As my health card is many yrs outdated I beg Dr. to do it. Can't go to family Dr. so they send me to a clinic that specailizes in DOT...
Anyway they do blood draw/blood/glucose meter. "190" I am in shock. Then BP "158/110" She leaves and I am walking around room. Thinking insulin, diet changes (massive) weight loss (ok thats needed)
I come up with "That MUST be wrong. So 2nd test. "79" and bp of 142/90" (IMO with stress thats not too far out of line) So couple more minutes and I passed BP as well.
So I have wasted afternoon, over $100 med check, buy items for road that I have no use for otherwise, swing by to get truck. "Larry don't know how to tell you. They decided to hire one of their own drivers" Trip is off. I have route, rest stops, Times for avoiding major cities/rush hr...
IF I had not had some other stuff to do I would have been on road BEFORE they canceled... Yep trucking is a fun job. Even when you are doing it just for a "lark" and to help out friend. (he gets paid balance when truck is back in TN)
I am requesting they pay for my physical. And sugest he get paid bill before he hands over keys.

Sounds like a pretty typical truckin' day!

"Gotta go pick up this load, driver. It's a HOT>>>HOT>>>>HOT!!!....load. Hasta gotta be there FAST!
You drive like Hades. You get there.
"I got a warehouse FULL of this crap", you're told.
You sit at the dock for 9 hours while they try to find a place to put that hot load.

So a question. I am thinking they accepted my $$ bid, seemed to think its fair. I sent "conditions" they oked but was wondering if I was out of line.
Couple conditions. They pay fuel, any truck related expenses. IF truck breaks down they pay for towing/repair and if out of service more then 4 hrs (I assume I would not be able to be in sleeper) they reimburse me for hotel. If more then 10 hrs its $150 per day I sit (plus hotel) with option I leave truck and drive my pickup home. In that case they pay $1 per mile I have covered. (be it 60 or 600 miles)I am covered by their insurance for any accidents/liability. (say tire falls off)
Do you think this is what changed the minds? I don't expect any trouble but felt its easier if "you plan for the worst/hope for the best" -

this has got to be one of the most annoying aspects..........nah, i am sure there are others
but you are right -
Doesn't happen to me very often...but when I used to haul parts up to American Axle in Detroit, I got that more than once. Now, if I get a load I can't do by the time given, and they keep insisting it has to be there, I just say no. Pretty soon it's rescheduled. Like it could have been to begin with.
Part of my "don't really care that much anymore" thing right now....
