I've done some of that meat hauling in the wee hours. I've seen all the scrap meat from day before, chicken, liver, etc., being mixed with hamburger for bulk sales to restaurants. Many of those smiling, friendly faces seen on grocery store employees are in reality smirks.

Chicken haulin' is fun isn't it? I did that for a bit, to Boston Market restaurants. They're actually not bad, but that slime never really seems to leave their kitchen floor no matter how meticulously the rest of the floor is cleaned. Makes it hard to use the clutch for awhile if you get a good coating of it on your boot soles

before this career i did fire safety systems they didnt clean for us i saw things that made me paranoid of what i ate for a very long time its amazing just how little sanitation is practiced i some of these places. Ya wanna see a movie that will mess with your head try food inc thats scary and true

I deliver a floor load of carrots to a canning company once. The dock was a long open concrete pad off the end of a building, sort of like a cross dock, but without any roof or doors. There was rotting produce all over the ground, flies and stink were everywhere.
After a while sitting there with my doors open and unit off (they were iced, at least what was left of the ice when they finally started), here comes a bobcat out of the building with a bucket on it. Into the trailer they went, scooping out buckets of carrots, leaving dirty, muddy tracks from the building a hundred or more feet away right into the trailer. When enough fell out of the bucket, it was scooped off the nasty dock, and away it went. Nasty place, and a major regional canner. It was also really fun trying to get carrots cleaned up that were squished into the floor ribs by the loader tires. -
After reading that, you don't wanna go to a restaurant !

I'm with ya on the chicken joint conditions. For a while I did security/surveillance system installs and repairs at Churches, Bojangles, and Popeyes, along with Waffle House and Wynn Dixie. I cannot tell you how many dead mice and rats I pulled out of the drop ceilings when running cable, not to mention the THOUSANDS of roaches running around all over the place.
Think about it before you eat at any of these places: Mice and/or rat poop in the drop ceiling ABOVE the fryer and the bin with the chicken in it... roaches, which also tend to poop a lot, in every electrical junction in the building....
See it once and you'll never go back there to eat. Good time to start a diet anyway.
You're welcome. -
Let's do lunch!
RedForeman and Logan76 Thank this. -
