These threads always crack me up. See.. this is why I usually run a little slower than the flow of traffic. I'm hot headed and will turn into another "you" if I'm in a hurry. So I try not to be in a hurry. On the other hand I don't profess to be one with a God-given entitlement to own any lane and take up residence, becoming a self-appointed traffic calming device. Conditions permitting, you'll find me in the slow lane when I'm slow.

A good example is riding around I-285 in ATL. I usually run about 3-5 over the limit (55) and still have super truckers running inches off my trailer. If the traffic is light to medium without a lot of ramp traffic, I'll hang in the right lane and deal with merging traffic, maybe even slowing some to not tailgate, so you can hurry up to the scene of your speeding ticket. If the traffic is heavy (read that as: the 10,000 cars ahead of me aren't moving any faster than me) I'll be a 2nd lane camper to avoid the also heavy merge traffic and you can get over yourself. Or take the inside lane and risk a lane violation or pass on the right. I don't care what you do.

The funny ones are those that proceed to pass on the right, only to find out that they're now in an exit-only (couldn't see the sign over the top of my trailer) and that I was actually in the "far right" lane to begin with.

Don't worry about the ICC/DOT bumper...Smash into it and it will break/fold under. It is of absolutely no safety to you. Worry about the floor level of the trailer that is literally neck height to you while sitting in that car. Tail gate a truck...Smash under the trailer and lose your head...Decapitation...Literally. I've seen more of these gruesome accident scenarios than I care to remember.

Saw one in Houston on the 610 loop last month in fact. No survivors in the 4 wheeler.

I think they improved many of those crash bars by putting the vertical parts towards the center, and having them reinforced with an angled piece behind. Optimally, those bars have 4 of those support pieces.

I ride a motorcycle and flatbed tow trucks give me the heebie jeebies. The bed is neck height, and the end of it is pointed like the edge of a knife.

I don’t give a wet fahrt if they have their blinker on or not. Activation of the blinker does not automatically give the driver the OK to merge. More than half the 4wheelers I see getting on the highway DO NOT MERGE PROPERLY.

I'm not a regular driver but I have taken trucks out for road tests (I'm a mechanic). My biggest gripes are people that can't seem to hold a consistent speed on a relatively straight road. Car drivers that seem to think they need a lane and a half or two lanes to make a right turn in their Prius are another thing that gets under my skin. Almost got sideswiped by one of those clowns the other day.

If you drive a Fiat, put a bumper sticker on it that says "Someone Fiated!". Maybe that will make everyone keep a good following distance.

Well since some states are thinking about and maybe soon implementing tolling truck's only, how about staying off our roads..????

I mean, ya know, if we gotta pay for'em, you ought to stay off'em......
