Best.....the freedom, just make the deliveries on time and no worries....and then absolute best...RETIREMENT!

worst...the decline in the respect from others....

 

Best: Drivin and workin the ol Big Truck

Best: the whole shebang. The job, the travel, the 'don't whats around the next corner' feeling.

The worst: everyone that has anything to do with the transportation industry and has never driven a truck. It's like having a marriage counsellor that's a virgin.

 

The best: Seeing the country at someone else s expense. Seeing where different products are made and come from.

The worst: The motoring public. Lack of common sense, always in the way and in a big hurry. Other truckers with motoring public mentality. And the ones who are filthy and don t take a shower but once every 7 to 10 days, and alarm the whole place with their funk

Tell that to the Dept. of Labor.

Least: I could write a thesis. Everything already mentioned and then some.

Best: The only thing I truly love about this job anymore is jumping off the big road and creeping through sleepy little towns. Throw in some big hills and I'm happy as a lark. That's the only way to really see this country. Except PA. God I hate driving that state.

 

Best - I enjoy driving and seeing all the sights... Some of this country is really beautiful

Least - being away from my wife and daughter so much.... Everyday my daughter gets a day older without her daddy... And that kills me inside

 

Driving a truck isn't difficult per se. Well sometimes it is but that's situational. It just takes lots of time and practice.

Relax and be patient. I see a lot of people get flustered with themselves because they just can't seem to back up. Protip: Backing is the hardest maneuver we all do on a consistent basis. Getting upset with yourself does you no good. There is no magic formula to put it in the hole the first time every time. It took me a full year on my own before I had the confidence to put it wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Patience grasshopper. It will come. I've been driving trucks for ten years and I still have days where I couldn't put it in the ocean if I was parked on the beach.

As far as truck jackings and things of that sort. It's a little overblown. I've only been ripped from the cab of my truck and had a brick thrown at my head twice! It's perfectly safe out here! Honestly, good common sense and trusting your gut will go a long way in keeping you out of trouble. A confident, 'don't f with me attitude' never hurt neither.

Good luck on your new adventure. My first year of driving was probably the most exhilarating, pucker inducing, scared sh*tless fun I've ever had.
