I drive through ND a lot, but have never gotten stopped randomly.

I was stopped for BS in NC one time. 6 cops wanted to search my truck for drugs or money. They called in a K9. They ended up not searching my truck, but they held us for 2 hours on the side of the road.

I did some reading and found where NC will take money if you have more than $8,000 because they say it's drug money. To get the money back you have to go before a judge and jump though hoops.

After talking to my lawyer he told me that they look for trucks they think are O/O, because there is a higher chance of money or drugs.

Dogs are trained to go after methyl benzene, but it's also in fungi, pesticides, solvents, flowers, food and drink flavors, butter, fruits, oils, perfumes, cheeses, tobacco, liquors, petroleum, and cosmetics just to name a few.

Yes cops have the right to search, but unless it is a safety check they need probable cause. Impeding an investigation also need probable cause. Probable cause is not a fishing trip...

Probable cause can bypass a warrant. If a K-9 hints of contraband in your personal vehicle/belongings, there's your probable cause. Also, Police can simply place you OOS until they get a warrant, which could take a few days.

I had a dog hit on my company truck and scratched the side. That was at that checkpoint in NM on I-10. They quickly gave up after they found out my little dog was in heat before I got her spayed.

But DOT can use the inspection rule to inspect your truck anytime and anywhere. That includes lifting the back bunk up to inspect the net mounts or heater. If they happen to see something suspicious they can go from there. If you have something to hide put it in your luggage or closet. A K9 hit is reasonable suspicion.

It boils down to one moron trucker that probably got busted so automatically all truckers have drugs in their possession. It's best just to comply and be polite and you will be on your way in no time.

i have never once had a cop ask to search the cab of a cmv in ND or any other state for that matter.

I have had them ask to serch my personal vehicle before. to witch i denied consent.

An officer must be CVSA certified to do an FMCSA "safety restraint " check .

There was a thread on here with the FMCSA number that you could get cited for having an un-made bed. It is possible to receive a fine for it

K-9 units are a scam cops have a code word to the tell your dogs to scratch so then they can have the legal right to search since the dog said something was found. I have a buddy who's a cop they do it all the time
