Anyone know if an overweight ticket in Florida counts against you on your license??? I was told it does not and that the company just pays the fine. Just curious.

It's a non-moving violation. It's not like getting a speeding or reckless award.

But here's the thing that concerns me...you got fined in Florida AND Georgia? If the ticket isn't paid in time, it can cause your license to be suspended. If your boss or whomever said that they will take care of the fine and to keep going, tell them you want a receipt showing that it was paid. The last thing you want to happen is to be a thousand miles away from your home state, pull into a scale and get a level 3 and your license comes up suspended, and you have to find a way back to your home state to get everything renewed. It IS a pain to do when you are in your home state and a nightmare when you're not.

Forgot to mention, when your license gets suspended, it may not show up for several months. Had it happen to me years ago. Pulled a load and they told me they would cover the fine. They didn't. 9 months later, I was notified that my license was suspended for an unpaid overweight ticket. Had to catch a ride to the little county courthouse where the scale was, pay the fine, then back to the DMV to retake the written part of the CDL test, and retest on all the endorsements at that time. Lost my hazmat endorsement that way.

This happened in the early 90s so things may have changed.

No, it's a non moving violation but again, that's why i bypass Floridas weigh station using the back roads! I you over the road drivers think that you are going to see a weigh station closed sign in Florida? nope! they don't closed. Anytime you do see one is when theres renovation or a broken scale.

Better watch those back roads, driver. DOT is stepping up patrolling the back roads here in Florida and employing portable scales on many of these country roads. Stay safe and out of the way of the DOT.

Yea, absolutely I know. They are showing up in places that I never saw them before. Today I saw one in the port of tampa scales and was ticketing a rock hauler right in the spot. Luckly we only carry empty soda cans to the Caribbean and weighs only like 7,000 total load. But yes, they are out there.
