I don't think anyone was rattled. And as far as revenue, I told them I only needed $3k a month!!! Lol they had no problem with that

I'm about half retired here also. And they knew that when I came here.
I run out a couple weeks, then take a week or two or three off.
When I am out running, I run an average 1700 miles in a week.
Thought I was the lazy driver here till I met several others.
I know one guy that runs approx. one run a week just inside of Kentucky so he can stay at the yard most of the time.
Not saying there isn't some hard runners here. but some of us are scared of the dark

Run with the lights on for safety, not because I need them to see the road. That's how I roll. Lol

My apologies for my humor. I am normally the overly positive one of the bunch and have been accused of being a recruiter for Mercer. lol

I know Mercer would appreciate your truck in our fleet for the simple fact that they are trying to reach a certain threshold of trucks leased on so they can open up to bigger customers. Average rate on freight like you were quoted does sound like one Mercer just said before, van rates.
In my view rates have come down slightly only because of FSC is on a decline. And again I feel the rates quoted to you are van rates. As far as getting loads are concerned, I do not see an issue at all. More so than that, I think Mercer would be a great fit because they treat you like a big boy and with respect. In my opinion.
My average right now for all miles is $1.97
My other truck is about $1.89.

I don't see how someone could NOT do well here, it's almost like you'd have to try to do poorly.

I feel the same way, but there are those that will disagree. you got to have something besides a hatrack on your shoulders

These are exactly the reasons im thinking of leasing my truck onto Mercers flatbed division even though ive never pulled flatbed before

I can tell you that most people just have never done any better anywhere else, when I had a truck there I couldn't believe people hauled that cheap. I know Houston sucks but $1.60/mi that's it...the longer the run was the cheaper it was yes we did have a week at $1.94/mile but he only drove 1,750 miles that week 300 miles of that was deadhead miles.

Like I said that was months ago and maybe things have changed but I don't see them improving much. But I think it's more of a industry problem than it is mercers problem load board rates ant much better if it wasn't for the direct customers I have I wouldn't be around long.

I have a good buddy of mine that has done really good all these years pulling tankers we talked last week and was asking about flatbed I was thinking he was joking! ill say this I think I have it better than most. I'm just glad I don't rely on just trucking for all my income. I've also had a good run at trucking but I think the end is close for me...I'm looking at buying a new truck if I can make it until its paid for ill be happy
