The truckstops there are nothing to write home about. Best one is on 12 heading east until you're almost out of town, go past it and then take the next right onto the frontage road that will bring you back to it. Not much parking, 10-12 spots maybe. Best thing about the place is the free wifi. :)

Thanks, that's where I ended up. Surprisingly, it was less than half full so no problem parking. I see 2 other Crete trucks here too. I'm hesitant to approach them since sometimes people want to be left alone. Man, I hope the customer will accept this load tomorrow.

Why do people stay at a company they hate?

Caught between a rock and a hard place financially? Not wanting to start over in terms of seniority? Plenty of legitimate reasons people keep jobs they hate...

That pretty much sums it up. For me it's a matter of needing insurance coverage for my wife. I seldom use any of the insurance, in fact my doctor visit next month is straight out of pocket(cashed in a vacation week) because his visit is $500, and our deductible is $1000. That and, like 'em or not, I know what to expect here for the most part. I may not like how they are, but they rarely surprise me...I expect incompetence when it comes to orginazation and planning, and they rarely surprise me by being organized and ahead of the game. Plus, there aren't too many companies I could start out with making the yearly average I do here.

You can't be serious? How many people truly love their jobs .... maybe 1 out of 50? Even then, how many of those are just trying to convince themselves they love their job? I don't mean to be overly negative, but it's not surprising at all to me. Isn't there something in the Bible about us being put here to suffer? I see a lot more of that than people brimming with joy about their job.

I couldn't agree more. How many times do we pull into a shipper or receiver and get the "what do you want?" attitude like we chose to bother them... Sometimes I'm tempted to take out my false teeth before I check in just so I don't bite my tongue completely off. Some people put on a happy face when you're standing there (like the Pilot cashiers) but if they don't know you're there, they take a much different tone when bs'g with their co-workers. I think Alfred Lord Tennyson said "our's is not to reason why, our's is to do or die"...or maybe it was Schwarzenegger...I forget.

In fact I'm at one of those customers tonight. Sam's in Mishawaka, IN (store). 330 am appointment, show at 3. Forklifts unloading, rain pouring down, no awning over the door and the door is locked. As the person on the forklift goes by the "local vendor" door(with the window) I hit the annoying buzzer quickly. Purposely trying my best not to whizz anyone off. Several minutes and several pallets later, she gets off the lift, grabs a dustmop and cleans out the Walmart trailer she was unloading...so I buzz quickly again...in a mockingly retarded tone she says "use the door" meaning the receiving door...that was locked. So, without hesitation, I return 'tard her by saying "you mean the one that is locked?". The only thing that was missing was the Duh. I try to be patient with customers...but at 3 am....that button that sets me off is a little easier to find. To top it off, once she let me in, it was "we'll get to you when we get to you"...which was responded to with "fine with me, I don't mind getting paid detention time for sleeping, it's your money." 5 minutes later my truck was shaking w/2 forklifts hitting it.
