Sometimes when I'm driving semi I wonder how many people double clutch and how many people float the gears. I know mostly everyone floats the gears, but I know a lot of drivers who double clutch cause they say it's easier on the transmission. They always say I would rather put in a clutch than a transmission. I do both sometimes when im driving just so I don't lose the feel of doing it. I know some people who cant double clutch anymore cause they been floating gears for so long and vice versa.

When I'm Really lazy I push my yellow button and hope that the truck will roll down just fast enough so i can slide it in 2nd gear hello come in
I have over 850,000 miles on my Eaton and just replaced the clutch @ 780,000 miles
So if double clutching is better for the trany I Like to see that
double clutching is for people that rev up the engine to high and try to shift gears too fast it's a way to put the bake on the clutch to slow it down most likely was Designed for people that are too excited and they are not calm & cool on that stool 10/10:biggrin_25517:

I'm not saying it is either better on the trany. I was just wondering what other people thought. I'm sure people have had great luck either way. Btw congrats on that! Hopefully your truck keeps going great for you, and the break downs are minor!

I only use the clutch to pull out or stop. I don't see how it's hard on the trans if you're not grinding gears. Double clutching to me seems like a good way to fry the clutch. I did fake it on my CDL test because I was told you had to do it. Floating gears just seems more natural to me though.

You forgot the clutch is also for those times you can't get the transmission out of gear on the down shift. I put a new clutch in my tractor a couple months ago truck doesn't hop now since I don't have 3 broken springs but I hate the feeling of that new 2050 Eaton. I can't get the pedal all the way to the floor and where it breaks torque is just before the clutch brake so I don't touch the sob unless I'm starting, I try not to actually stop at lights but when I have to I don't touch the clutch until I need to get the truck in gear. That 3rd pedal is there for starting and stopping only if you can't float get an auto.

My job is so boring I count the number of times I shift sometimes, lol.Anyway if I can't get it into gear I double clutch otherwise it's floating.

One of the few topics all drivers can agree on.:biggrin_25523: Both methods have an advantage/disadvantage. It behoves an experienced driver to be proficient at both. That's my finally word on that.

Wow and I thought getting in heated arguments with myself was bad. I pretty much refuse to double I use it to break torque occasionally but I just hate using that #### clutch maybe its because my pickups a manual too and I use the clutch in it idk. I will say I found out one day my left leg is a lot stronger than my right one lol
