Our company is close to the same size, and running an operation that size is not an easy life...at least not if you want to make money. But with open deck trucks he could get almost any company to entertain working with him. Assuming he would be out of the Louisville area, he is in the heart of steel country. He could run trucks in IL, IN, MI, OH, KY, & TN and make money. Its not easy, but leasing 40 trucks on with someone is just lazy.snowman_w900 and Clasix1055 Thank this.

At my point in life I would rather be somewhat lazy, and make a little less in order to not kill myself with stress and to have a life outside work. Every person is different, but that's just me. I have bought into and built losing companies into money making companies at a great cost to my mental and physical health, and strain on my home life. I sold out both when they were at a point to where I was going to have to expand and hire more employees and buy more equipment.
I don't regret either decision. My mental, physical, and family health is more important to me than being a big player. Maybe this guy is the same. A few more dollars at the end of the year may not mean as much to him as his well being.d o g, Blind Driver and flatbed22 Thank this. -
I never had much luck getting out of MN. either.
Wisconsin used to be better especially Oshkosh but since the Milatary is downsizing, things are down in general..
Really do like Indiana, Ohio, and Ky areas. -
Seriously thinking about going with Mercer in the near future. I from central Illinois is this a good frieght lane area for Mercer? I want to make sure I'm in a good area before I go with them. Don't want to have to dead head extremely far to go to or leave the house. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Good area would depend on the equipment you have, and how much weight you can haul.
Is Danville a good area for you, as we have steady loads out of there, just usually little on heavy side. I'm thinking around 44 thousand.
Otherwise I think Ill. is a real good area. I run in and out of there alot. -
Danville isn't too far I guess and weight shouldn't be a problem. Do they have short haul stuff? Just trying to see what all the options are.

Meet a mercer driver the other day, and he said that he got a dedicated run....... I didn't press for details . And I know sometimes guys throw the dedicated word around loosely .
But how does this work with mercer's system ? His loads never make the load board , I guess ??
He had a flatbed .... -
He could have found a customer that likes him and has requested his truck each time. That's what I'm after
-
Sometimes Mercer is offered loads on a dedicated basis and the customer wants a dedicated driver to handle the account. How Mercer handles things like this is they will put drivers names in a hat, whoever gets their name pulled out of the hat wins the account. I have been asked several times if I would like to have my name put in a hat for a chance at a dedicated run. Loads like that never make it onto the loadboard.
