Does Schneider provide free road atlas at training or should I bring one from home? And I heard the second day is a road test. Is it just like the one I had to take at the DMV to get my CDL or is it a little more relax? I haven't driven a truck since school and that was six months ago so I will be a little rusty and don't want to get sent home the second day there, thanks

Yes they provide a road atlas. Fourth day is the road test - the first day is paperwork, two days of practice (yard and road) then a road test. Second week is with trainer out on the road, third week is qualcomm and final road test. Lots more laid back (at least for me) than the CDL test. I'm in my second month as a Schneider OTR company driver and love it.

If you get thru training, I believe they will give you a new atlas. As far as the road test, you will just be making turns and driving around the area. You will also practice backing and parking in their training yard. At least that's what I did when I trained in Gary, Indiana a few years back.

Thanks a lot, I was worried about not getting any practice before testing, but if I can get a couple days practice it should come back to me. But I thought I read on another post it was a test the second day there. I will be at the Atlanta one if that makes any difference

If you can back into a spot at the Atlanta OC (especially over the weekend), you'll be able to back in anywhere.

The roads around the Atlanta OC aren't bad to drive on but the previous poster was correct, that OC is VERY crowded. Just take your time, get out and look before you back and just be safe. They aren't looking for speed, they are looking to see if you are a careful driver. Good luck.

I begin my second day at SNBC in Coraopolis tomorrow. Hopefully it will be more exciting than today was.

First day paperwork is the worst --- it's good after that.

Literally about six and a half hour of my time today was spent sitting in front of a big screen watching the news. We had a huge class, well over twenty people and it took forever to get everyone through PWS. Half the class washed out though, so now there aren't so many.

That pre-work screen is bogus and it is costing Schneider a lot of drivers in the tank division. How lifting a 60 lb crate 3 times has any practical application to the job, I will never figure out but that is the way they roll now.

I know that a lot of drivers are also cut due to high heart rates during the pre-work screen. I guess they are looking for Olympic athletes to driver their trucks. :biggrin_25525:
