Since I posted a reply regarding buying a Volvo, my 2007 Volvo 780 died an untimely death from a blown cooling system thanks to a malfunctioning air compressor. Needing a new truck, we bought a "2014" Volvo 780 and what a blessing it is. The truck has a 240 inch wheel base, Volvo D14 455 hp engine, Volvo I-Shift 12 speed automated transmission with 2.64:1 ratio, built in Bluetooth technology, built in 3.2 cubic foot refrigerator, built in 1000 watt inverter/charger and four 120 volt outlets. I now have room for my printer and microwave on separate shelves, a stationary upper bunk with a real mattress. The truck is much better insulated and quieter than the old truck.

Better yet, the I-Shift transmission works flawlessly and I am getting up to 2 mpg better fuel economy. I came down I-17 from Flagstaff, set the cruise at 65, and the Jake brake in the "A" position and the truck held the speed at 68. Coming with my load from Chattanooga, TN on I-40, travelling at 70 mph with a 20,000 lb load, I averaged 7.1 mpg. Usually with a 45,000 lb load, I will get 6.5 mpg at 65 mph.
The longer wheel base gives the truck a more comfortable ride even without airbags on the steer axle. With twin 150 gallon tanks, I can usually drive 1600 miles before fueling.

The bottom line is that if you are considering buying a new truck, I recommend Volvo, especially with Volvo engine and transmission. I won't recommend buying one with an Eaton Ultrashift as they are nothing but a pain and fail frequently.

Same here, 10 mpg, few weeks ago, from Ontario to Arkansas, light load 8-10,000 lbs in the box, and 25 mph back wind :) ; but... I did dozens of measurements from pump to pump, the dash mpg is off from -0.5 to +0.1 mpg.

I check mine from pump to pump and reset the dash every time I fill and my real numbers are only 1-2 tents off the dash. I love my truck.

My truck is just under 21k with full tanks. I wouldn't touch a crapcadia, had a 2011. It was a POS. major headache and Freightliner was no help. Told me I would have to live with it. Search on here and other places on the web, you will find lots of horror stories.

What about the Cascadia with a detroit. The detroit is better then ISX.

FL is gonna get better mpg (the cascadia is the highest mpg truck on the road right now) and be cheaper to maintain thus making you more money. The volvo is a nicer truck, but will cost you more to run.

My crapcadia was a dd15. Whole truck was a POS. door leaked, windshield leaked, corroding the samcab connectors, engine never regened properly, delta P's replaced every other week. Trucks was JUNK! never touch a Crapcadia. EVER, I would have traded it for a Coronado if they treated me better, but being told they were not going to fix it and I would have to live with it was the last straw. FREIGHTLINER SUCKS.

If your primary concern is comfort on the road its the 780, hands down. This may not be the wise business choice however, because the maintenance costs on the Volvo are CRAZY higher then the frightliner. On the other hand the maintenance costs on the ISX is even worse. Are you sure your not mixing the engines up? D15 is common in Freightliners and ISX is common in 780s. You will bank much more money over all with a Freightliner with a Detroit. I have seen it over and over again. I ran for a small Independent. Had a Freightliner with a Detroit that had to be rebuilt. Took a few days and not even 1000 bucks. Had a ISX in a 780 that needed a rebuild.... it totaled the truck and as nice as it was, went DoA and was a HUGE loss.
