Actually most are manual now. If you get one of the few autos left you'd probably be out of it within six months.

My first tractor was a 2009 Peterbuilt. I had it 5 days and got 339 miles. that's it. It broke down one day three separate times. Every new driver with every company will start at the bottom. My next tractor was a 2010 Cascadia with 360,000. I still have it. she's a good truck. and don't let the automatic transmissions frighten you...... They aren't bad except backing up and sometimes on hills. You will become spoiled.
All trucks have 1400 watt power converters - very nice. most have APU's. Miles are there if you hustle and stay on time. last week was 2452 with one full day in the terminal in Atlanta. I met "driver" there. Nice fella. -
I said the same thing about auto shifts but once i drove one i liked it the trucks in atlanta was mostly auto shifts i was there 5 days ago

I had an auto-shift for two years and loved it. It just took a little figuring out that's all. The worst thing about it was going back to a manual and not having any muscle in my left leg to push that heavy clutch spring down and hold it for lights.. first couple days I was really hurting...lol

yeah they still have alot of Autos but they are weeding them out my 1st 2 trucks were auto but now i got a stick. the hardest part of figuring out the auto is the dock bounce ( autos do not move by them slfes you have to apply the accelerator petal to get movement and it will take you a bit to get use to it and you will bounce off the docks not hard but you will)

What is USAs policy for those who have been out of a truck for several years? I haven't driven since 2009 and am looking to go back on the road in the next month or so - while I have no problem with a training program, I don't want to pay for another school or refresher. Any insight? Thanks.

Call the recruiter and ask. I'd bet most companies will want a refresher.
