He has enough medication to last him for 1 month when he left home. Since he left on the 9th of June we had no other choice but to schedule him on the 8th. With him putting his home time in 2 1/2 weeks in advance we didn't think it would be issue. Yes in my opinion that is a safety issue. Pharmacy don't allow over a month supply at a time to be dispensed so that is all he could take with him.

He runs every holiday except for Christmas. It just so happened that 4 weeks fell on a holiday weekend. Not something that we planned it just worked out that way. The 4th of July is not important to us.

He originally set his home time for the 6th. Then he send his DM a message that he would need to be home no later than Sunday night the 7th to make his appointment. His DM said that he would work it out. Planner sent him this load anyway. He sent several messages that the Relay that didn't get him home until after his appointment. The weekend planner said for him to roll with it. So I am not sure what he is going to do. He is the one who has to decide, but if it were me I would be on the phone with Safety 1st thing Monday morning. Knowing him he will just tell his DM on Monday that it can't happen again. He is not as vocal as I am. LOL

I didn't have any problems there, I wasn't fired you can ask Vickie if you like she knows me. So before you start acting like you have all the answer's you might want to check. T he time I was there I ran my ### off for them, no question's ask, stayed out for 10 weeks at a time. I finely got a job that took me 2 years to get, so you can make all the fun you want about wal-mart, but driving here is like be at a country club. I get paid for everything I do.. I wish you all the best at Freymiller, next time you are in the yard, Please tell Vickie, Pat Miller said hi...

Well as for prescriptions I have the initial fill done at Wal-Mart and then just hit a wal-mart out on the road for refills, but still gotta drop in and see the doc once or twice a year for renews.

Regardless of the timing the point remains that time off around a holiday is likely to present problems for getting home so I would have stayed out a week longer and set up the appointment for then. But that's me. Just remember that drivers are expendable. Yes, they'll try to work with a driver to a point but if it comes down to what a driver wants (and remember they hear all kinds of excuses) and a load getting there on time, the driver loses out.

edit: I R idjit, he couldn't stay out another week since he was out of meds, so he'd have had to come in a week early. I wouldn't have liked that either but needs must and all that

That is what we are gonna have to do for refills. He has refills on all meds except 1 diabetic med. This appointment is to get his 6 month scripts. Hopefully they can squeeze him in on Wed.

He has no complaints at all about this company. He is getting in the miles and the paychecks are good. Trucking is trucking.. all depends on what type of loads they have. I was venting yesterday and maybe I shouldn't have been... just get frustrating sometimes.

    Dennis:

I don't know what the company speeds are set at, but a lot of their o/o's are driving former company trucks. They have a pretty good maintenance program from what I can tell.

My husband's dr appointment was rescheduled until Wednesday 7-10-13 because he doesn't deliver until 7-9-13. He will be about 80 miles from our home... He was told that when he did the relay that it was his load home... Well they now send him a load to pick up tomorrow and deliver 1000 miles away on 7-11-13. With him only being 80 miles from our house!!!!!! I am livid at this point. He will be completely out of his medication by the 11th. At this point I am dumbfounded as to what they don't understand about the fact he has to come home to go to the dr. Had to cancel the 1st one so I rescheduled because they told him that load was to get him home..

Drivers chose to be drivers and be away from their families for 3-4 weeks at a time... but when they need to be home for an important reason you would think that they would accommodate that request or get as close as possible even.. He requested the 6th.. I chalked that up to it being the holiday weekend.... but now they want him to drive over 1000 miles away to deliver 5 days after his request??!! Now he will have to travel 75 South and he will go right past our house. I hope they tell him that he just has to pick it up and they will have it relayed. There is no way for him to go to the doctor on the 10th and be 1000 miles away on the 11th... This whole situation is getting ridiculous.

OK, they're pushing to see how serious he is and he needs to put his foot down and say NO. A diabetic with uncontrolled blood glucose is not legally allowed to operate a CMV, and since he will not have the prescribed medication without seeing the doctor first that means he must go home prior to running out of medication.

I don't see a good outcome here. He's going to have to try to get Safety involved I think and that sort of thing is hit and miss in that some safety departments have real clout and some are jokes. I have no idea about Freymiller but it doesn't look good or they wouldn't try this sort of thing in the first place. If getting Safety involved doesn't work then he's got a decision to make. I know which way I'd be leaning already but I'm not him.

Most high mileage companies don't care about drivers home time. All they care about is moving freight. He needs to reject the load so he can go to his doctors appointment, and spend some time with his patient wife. Don't know how much longer you will be patient though, and have every right to let off some steam. You might even want to put out some applications just in case he needs another job in a few weeks. Truly sad the way people are treated, and if I were a business owner. I'd definitely want my employee to have their meds.
