I been driving a dry van and thinking of working for a reefer comp....do you get paid while they unload/load the trls?
or is it like the dry vans where you eat the 1st 2 hrs of loading/unloading. -
Depends on load and contract....many times its built into my rates kinda assume i,ll eat some time at 3 dollars a mile but at 180 i start biching and usually get 300 a day
-
We get paid after 1 hour, which is likely not the norm out there. The company figures the first hour is roughly the pickup or delivery payment we get for the stop, so after that we go hourly.
-
Pros: Steady and longer freight runs. Healthier companies because of it.
Cons: Difficult shippers and receivers to work with. Two tanks to fill. Longer periods of loading and unloading. Cheap freight means cheap pay. -
Loading and unloading is a pain. Depending on the company expect to sit...a lot. Targets and Carrillo are the worst. 4 hour minimum unload. Carefully are never in time with a load...ever. I don't think once. Terrible company.

I deliver a combo fresh/frozen load to Walmart and pretty much guaranteed to be in and out in 30 minutes. I have priority over any other truck short of another Walmart truck. Part of this is the store is hit with a $500 wait fee after 45 minutes so we get in and out pretty quick.

Really????

Yup. On the reverse side, if I'm late they charge us the same fee. Seems sort of childish in a lot of ways but apparently the concept was they could a bulk of their deliveries done for nothing using this model. I prefer to work with the store and I'm on pretty good terms with them as it's a dedicated run so I see the same people weekly.

I find it hard to believe that the worlds largest retailer does this.
