My truck is gov. @ 76 mph. I run regional based out of Denver. Don't have my log book handy to give you the specifics of the weeks.

With Elogs, you can't edit your drive time.

    Right.

You can 'correct' on-duty to off-duty, preserving your 70...

And no small amount of fibbing! The elog 'magic eraser'. Have to be on-duty to fuel, so fuel last.

I could drive 2 miles off-duty before it automagically went to driving; so I always drove off 'off-duty'.

    Adds up.

I am one of those who drive no faster than 55 in California. I have 2 tickets from 2011 so there is no more fooling around. I get passed up all the time in my big truck and when I'm on hometime here in Cali driving the personal vehicle I just about get run down by the big rigs when I'm going 65. There is a big road project on I5 through Stockton, the speed limit for everyone is 55, going that slow will just about get you killed.

If I were going to make an unpopular prediction, I would be tempted to bet that over time wages will rise. Initially companies will make drivers take it in the shorts because their attitude has always been use, abuse and discard and they'd like us all hyperventilating about the FMCSA.

So I think that's the short term.

Longer term it becomes more difficult for them to hire drivers in who want $750/week or more added to their checking account ($1,000/week gross) for a 5-day week. Miles, schmiles. The bottom line is what drops into my checking divided by the hours I had to put in to put it there. As the FMCSA tries to better our quality of life, we keep pushing back and abetting the very companies who don't value us a whole lot more than a steering tire.

Now right about here I expect some local cheerleader to chime in about how much his company loves him, gives him all these great miles... Again, miles schmiles. It's dollars in divided by hours you trade out. Anything else is self-deception.

I agree pay will rise but trailer length will get longer, tractors will get lighter and loads will be heavier and/or they will go to a tridem 57 foot trailer and raise the limit from 80,000 to 96,000 pounds.

    The Tractor-Trailer of Tomorrow

Tomorrow's truck won't have a driver; it will be driverless. Google already has permission to run its driverless cars on California roadways: http://content.usatoday.com/communi...ars-california-google/70001152/1#.UghECGt5mSM

We are like future buggy whips. A DM-type guy or gal will guide a group of trucks like DMs herd drivers today. The technology is already in use in the military to pilot drones in Pakistan and Yemen, from office buildings in AZ.

As driverless cars take hold, trucks will follow...

Our destiny is with horses, canoes, sailing ships and paddle wheelers. There once was a time when...

there was talks last year when evan lockridge was running his show. about some company with a pilot program battery operated semi. with some type of generator to charge the batteries.

they can make remote control drones. why not cars and trucks. and trains for that matter.

i keep saying that todays world is more automated and it just keeps getting worse. people are being replaced with machines. and the population still grows. the govt says we're at 7% unemployment and they want to see lower. but how low can you go with growing population and machines taking over our jobs.

think the automobile industry. assembly lines once manned entirely of humans. are now part machines. electricity is cheaper then labor.
