I have a 2005 volvo 780 with a d13 volvo engine.I was at my loading this morning and after securing my load I came in to my oil pressure reading close to 120. Called Volvo to see if its safe for me to proceed and told me just to keep an eye on it. Truck has no codes or warnings, seems to drive fine except once I reach high speeds it just doesn't feel right don't know how to explain it, like wobely. Could it be just a sensor? Or am I looking at something serious? I already have a bad egr that I have to fix once I get home tomorrow that forces me to stop and restart the motor to get the truck to run normal again for some hundred miles or so. Could the oil pressure reading be related to this issue? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

I'd like to know the answer as well, KW though, not Volvo. My gauge was pegged at 100 psi and the qualcomm was showing 148 psi reading from the ECM. Did that for a while now the gauge just stays at zero and the qualcomm zero too. Hopefully just a sensor. Truck runs fine.

I would think oil pressure relief valve, the gauge and ecm get there readings from different sensors, most of the time the gauge is still a mechanical gauge with line run in cab from eng.

Sounds to me like the pressure switch is bad. By pass valves normally dont stick close, they can however rarely, stick open. that would show low oil pressure. And all your guages are most likely electronic. Except your air guages.

I say not. A bad sensor, clogged case valve, a Turbo sensor, yea, that can do it too. It's a diesel, most likely it's a sensor. I'm NOT a mechanic.

I would about bet the kw with the problem in this post has a manual gauge in dash, oil pressure went from pegged out to 0 something happened. I don't see alot of real late model volvo's like I do the Pete and KW but all I have worked on for oil pressure concerns have used a 3 wire sensor for ECM this is where prodriver and qaulcomm get data. a 1 wire sending unit for electric gauge and 90 percent still use a manual gauge. What are the odds of two different "sensors" giving the same wrong reading I dont know as I'm not a gambler. 120 psi for sure is on the edge of blowing the sealing ring on the oil filter.

I do not see any way for your pressure to get that high. it must be the sensor ,or the gauge, or a short somewhere.

If its not a sensor, a spun main bearing can cause a spike in oil pressure because of blockage. Hope that's not the case. Good luck kiddo.

my Columbia didn't come with a manual style gauge, only an electric one. now Ofcourse I put in the much more accurate manual gauge before heading out on its first load. good thing to considering that sensor went bad a few years later, had top drive a hundred miles holding down the shut down over ride switch. anyway on my Detroit the same sensor feeds the ecm and the gauge. I bet it's a sensor problem on yours also, or you'd be able to find oil coming from somewhere. I'm also surprised out hadn't flashed a code or cel.
