Don't tell your company that.. You will be home everyday.... on the other hand the driver that needs to be home every week will be stuck out forever.....
-
Im not sure I understand the reasoning behind that. I am a 24 year old male, that has no family/kids/responsibilties. I think I would be the perfect candidate to stay out as long as they would need me to
-
You could stay out long easily, I've done 3-4 months myself usually during the end of the year, I don't run myself into the ground though and enjoy my time in new areas often. I usually do a month now.

i think what World was saying is that often, common sense is lost on dm/fm as well as planners. and even though you tell them i want to stay out for 6 months, you may find yourself having to remind them of that, where the guy that needs home every two weeks or so will find himself no where near his home state for months at a time.WorldofTransportation Thanks this.

When I drove for swift I would stay out 2-3 months per trip. But I stayed out there that long by choice.

I met a driver in allentown pa he stay out for 11 months the company call him real trucker exactly i told him he need to see a doctor because he is out of his mind, he aint got no kids, no family or nothing and i understand that but sometimes you need to be away from the truck and enjoy what you like to do since you already miss everything for been away for that long. I have a friend of mine he got kids, he is an otr driver and they call him every night daddy where are you? Im here at the truckstop right behind the house and he is 900 miles away.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
It must be such a wonderful life, to have absolutely nobody you care to spend time with. When you are too old to drive anymore, and have nobody but some poor stray cat to keep you company in your last days, you will have nobody but yourself to blame.
It really amazes me when drivers brag about how long they like to be out, when the reality is that they have to stay out long enough for their family to forget what a pain in the rear they are to have around.losttrucker and blairandgretchen Thank this.
