Oh boy! Dave had a 2 day. At 08:30 "ding" pick up 7 pc at 11,303# for Air France cutoff 10.
Think I "Hot diggity a nice payer to start the day". Get to SDV and the first thing I see is Screened tape on the first box. So I called dispatch and he said "she didn't say anything about screened" and as it happened they were no longer being sent as screened. But when the second box showed up the two of them would pretty much fill my trailer. I saw them struggling to load a tall crate on a 1 ton pick up. I didn't even know it was our company truck. Anyhow it wouldn't fit between his wheel wells so I got that crate for Manchester Port of Houston (Oh Boy! NOT!) Spent from 10:45 to 13:30 there. Went to the shop after to kibitz with some other drivers. Took the Mechanic into Pasadena to pick up a truck.

Then at 15:00 find out a stakebed couldn't take a load because it was heavier than we were told. Since I had the trailer I got sent to get it and deliver it in Baytown.

Rolled in home a wee bit after 19:00

Especially Indiana. It get's worse every year, and the highway robbers jack up the toll regularily.

The toll road bends a little north, US30, I71, I76 bends a little south. It's about the same miles either way. The only coop that's really ever open is the one just inside Ohio. You guys ever hear of PrePass?

WallyWorld on US87 in San Angelo TX.

Didn't like that, hey? Well how about... "They frequently jack up the tolls beyond the bounds of fiscal necessity." Kinda like a little California escaped to somewhere else...

Increasing the minimum wage is not the full answer. Lowering the cost of living, in addition to a raise, now that might help some folks out. The more money people make, the more they will spend, and in some cases, it isn't spent where it should be. It's spent on the frivolities that are wanted, not needed. Just my .02.

Increasing the minimum wage does exactly the opposite...it reduces jobs!

Minimum wage is for those entering the work force...the lowest level, no skills, no job experience, it was designed to protect the part-time, student work force from basically slave labor. An employer can still start a person at below minimum wage by the title of "training wage", and this has a specific time limit by law (90 days). At the end of this "training period", the new hire can either be moved into the "regular work force" at minimum wage, or not be offered employment (terminated). McDonald's discovered and won the fight in court (one of the few cases where the ACLU was beaten in court) regarding the "training rate of pay".

There are other costs directly related to the earned income of an employee, that the employer bears...Social Security, unemployment, medicare, FICA, workman's comp...these costs along with any insurance package are born mostly by the employer. by increasing the minimum wage, these costs also increase to the employer. At what point does an employer say "I can only afford to have "XX" number of employees, I can't afford to have any more!"
