There are 2 possible temp readings, and the air discharge temp is the default. You either read the air coming into the evaporator, or you read it out. What would be ideal would be remote sensors, but that will likely never happen which is why many shippers depend on recorders that are on the skids. You may disagree, but sorry, that's the way Carrier and Thermo-King are setup on any of the units I've worked with for the past 20 plus years.

I'd agree with rogue. I've got an older '01 Carrier Phoenix and a newer '06 TK SB210. Both box temp displays are return air. Same with an '04 Carrier Ultima XTC on a trailer I sold. To me, having discharge air temp displayed would only be useful for diagnostics. On the default display I want to see the temp on the inlet as an indication of what's going on in the van.
Maybe when they're new out of the box they are set differently and all the used ones I've had were modified by the original owners? -
Yep, return air is default, pushing the button would give discharge, differential, and coil temps. If memory serves, there was a way to hold one of the alternate temps on the display, but it reset to return temp every time the switch was turned off.
-
So when the unit is shut down after reaching temp, the displayed temp is the air being discharged?
All I know is, I can scroll through the display, and view one for "air discharge temp" and it does not match the display. Of course as it cools they become closer. -
No, the return air is the default, because it most closely tracks product temp.
-
Additionally, I can go into the data menu, bring up return air temp, and it is always an exact match to the default or main box temp display. That's on both Carrier and TK units I have.
-
I stand corrected. I hadn't looked at these things in a long time, and so made a point of doing a double check. That's the problem when people start messing with the default settings and you take it that's the way it is. It is return air, with one of the diagnostics tests being the difference in temperature separation between intake and exhaust.

Hmm why Not just leave a pulp thermometer in product on the last pallet?
Wow y didn't I think of that?
Seriously--I send earlier and emphatically Do Not seal PRODUCE--ya gotta be able to get in and check it!!if ur new at this--make it part of EVERY STOP--just like kick in tires etc--I cannot remember the last time I went more n 3-4 hours w/out checkin a load of garbage--& of course the problems w/all the #### newfangled units is the no info readouts--ill happily go back to hanging a green/yellow/red lite on my wagon--kinda nice Ta know what she's doin--always a peaceful feeling watchen er kick back and forth tween green and yella

scottlav46 and Hammer166 Thank this. -
Actually, our new Carriers have a display you can see in your rearview, or at will have one until someone knocks it off. Strictly a color type thing and easily seen.

I'm with you on this one, for sure! They make it idiot-proof and ruin it for those who know how to use it!'olhand Thanks this.
