That's weird... I haul a lot of rolls of paper out of Addison, IL amongst many other states and have never seen a roll of paper that weighs Between 3 and 7 or 8 thousand pounds shift around the trailer... Maybe it was years ago like you said but now they put a piece of carpet like padding down that prevents that... Even with some "off road" driving per-say cant see that happening now days.

Make sure to remind the people loading the trailer that it is going to CA. If they ship there a lot they will know how to load the trailer.

A lot of good info here.

Bottom line is make sure it's loaded right before you take it - even if it's having it scaled and reworked 3 or 5 times.
If you pick up a pre-loaded trailer headed to CA, then weigh it yourself on YOUR truck, with enough fuel to get where you're going.

And yes, California is a funny state. And not funny ha ha, either. Just plain funny.

over on the east coast. i kept my spread axles closed. the loads are lighter. and the majority of loads going north to south OR south to north. went through tennesse. closed axle state. nobody ever questioned me.

in the middle of the country. or westward. i come in with closed axles. i get the attitude. becuase they know i'm going to CA. and they'd prefer a 48 over a 53. LOL.

Set 40 feet from king pin to middle of rear tendem. wt 12000 steer, 34000 drive , 34000 at back trailer. CA are very strick on this. Have seen DOT officer came out with her measuring tape and measure it and give a warning for just a few inchest off. I went over 900 lb on my rear and no matter how I adjust my tendem it still 900 over when I went thru AZ scale house. DOT wre nice enough to let me go without a ticket. I was very lucky. I guess it also how u approach them.

To dodge Cajon you just go through at night. CHP is solar powered there. If all else fails, take 14. 62 is another option to miss Banning and Cajon, but is pretty limited by where you're coming from and going.

Idiocy isn't only in California, now in Florida, you can run heavier on the trailer tandems if necessary, I don't know about the drives, that would make a misloading too short easier to deal with, but I doubt it, somehow that would be too easy, and a welcome development.

I was informed once the pavement bridge between the axles was the problem, the slabs as well as the roadbed are under more tension with a longer distance between weight bearing centers. I think that whatever the reason, enriching the donut fund has become the major motivator for enforcement. I look at what IL did a few years back, and what the "bible" doesn't address about STAA routes in the Illini.

    Illinois is broke, too.

FL is 44,000 on any set of tandems without permit. So if your running an intrastate FL load no need to axle out as long as gross is OK and your tandem group is at 41' for 49' and larger trailers.
