We just purchased a couple brand new tractor & reefer trailer units. One of them we plan to utilize for regional (MI, IL, OH, IN) runs. The other we plan to use for long-haul runs (FL, AZ, TX, CA). Mainly produce related shipments. We've been a broker now for a long time, but are starting small with owning our own trucks. Looking forward to receiving input/help/feedback/resources/etc from this forum. I've been put in charge of these 2 units and the drivers that accompany them. I have no experience with owning trucks, but have mentors around me who have many years of experience with owning trucks.

Thanks in advance for anyone who is willing to help point me in the right direction.

Good luck. My husband hauls reefer, also loads can be dry van too. The worse thing is finding washouts along the way for the trailer when empty; a lot of the meat loads really need this, some of the produce also leave odors. Blue Beacon has a list of their truckwashes on the internet for a starter, some of which are by TA's and Flying J's. Having a load dispatched with things like washout areas is a great help for truckers.

I use a website www.findfuelstops.com all the time to help my husband find truckstops in the area where he is going. It does not have all the truckstops in the world, some of them are smaller ones and some like the Wilco Hess are not usually setup for parking.

if you have good experienced garbage haulers (produce haulers) you should not have any problems they will know what parts of the country produce is shipping out of and what times of the year and they will know what to look for when they are loading and how it should be loaded to avoid claims when it gets where it going(i.e.bad product/in route damage/proper temp. good luck

Thank you both for the responses. Our location is located right next to a truck stop and a truck wash - so we have those basis covered!

Good for the "Wife" that has the advice...but in the real world, reefer loads sometime need a washout which is cheap at 25 bucks and why would you not pay it to make more money? Hmm
