I agree.
Although, I have pulled into a stop with less than a minute left on my 11, 14 or 70 (and now, the 8 hour rule). That can cause a bit of stress because of HOS rules.
It makes me want to hurry, so I can stay legal.
It's hard not to, when you are up against a wall.
And as much as I try to plan ahead, sometimes it is simply not good enough. All it takes is a very slow construction zone, some heavy traffic or an accident, or no parking at the first couple places you try.
Then you get into a panic mode, and rush things.
I hate when that happens...

what gets me are the drivers that you catch up to and wwhen you start to pass them, they decide to speed up or pace your speed. imo...if you"re the slower truck, slow down and let the faster truck by. i don't want a truck next to me that long, so i just let them go.
Skydivedavec and Moosetek13 Thank this. -
using the trolley brake is a veery bad idea in any condition. once you start sliding, brakes wont help. just get off the gas till you get traction
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
I drove for Swift for over a year. They start you low, but they give a lot of drivers a truck, a trailer, miles to run, and pay on Friday. Every Friday. Swift keeps raising drivers who don't crash or hang out in truck stops, their top grade, Platinum, pays well, $.42/dispatched mile. Compare that with any company out their. Swift just doesn't start rookies at journeyman scale. I lived with it, took the opportunity, and went to a better pay scale at another company. My experience was good, they gave me a ride and the experience I needed to earn a living for my family. I was there for 13 1/2 months, and don't have anything bad to say about them. Swift is a trucking company, not a charity. If competition drives rates down, and it does, it's an industry thing. If someone doesn't like Swift, there's thousands of other companies looking for drivers.

Yeah, that's annoying. Avoiding that Turtle Race, that's more professional than "I'm not lifting for anybody." Of course, there's that tight schedule once in a while, but even so, another few seconds aren't going to bother a trip schedule. One red light or less. Come to think of it, passing is a skill, and we don't all share the same viewpoint.Skydivedavec Thanks this.

Quick question how long you've been driving

The only bad thing about sliding the tandems all the way to the back is when you go to make that first tight turn, it is real easy to forget that you have slid those tandems back, and run stuff over while making the corner. I've seen it happen more than once!

if im running that close than i hit sleeper or off duty as soon as i pull in...now i have plenty of time to find a spot and park and to take my time.

Including his training time, almost 7 months ... But he is a voracious reader of this board and adept at synthesizing and regurgitating the knowledge he's gained on any subject relating trucking industry.

bbt.... if you hit onduty first, that'll give you time for post trip and lets you park the truck.
