The most important factor to consider is job placement. Look at TN Techs job placement record....it's somewhere around 60%. Look at Tennessee Truck Driving Schools record......I just looked it up on Tennessee Higher Education Commisions website.....it's 100%.
I just don't understand why everyone thinks that a longer school means more training.
And why would you want more training? You're not getting paid for it in school. You're unemployed in school......so every week out of works a week not paid.
If you start TN tech the same day I start a private 3 week school I'll graduate 3 weeks ahead of you. Let's say we both go to Roehl. They pay $600 a week in training.
So right away, I'm $1800 in pay ahead of you.
That makes that $1700 to $4000 cash difference not such a big difference.....cause TN tech really cost you $3500.
I went on Tennessee Truck Driving Schools website.
They only require $1000 down with no credit check to get their financing. They do their own financing...which means they put their money where their mouth is....they obviously believe in their product. It also means that they can probably start you much quicker than any public school could. I'd bet if you called them they could start you next week.....no waiting.
When I shopped TN tech 3 years ago it was an 8 week waiting period....add that to the 3 weeks of an extended course and now that's 11 weeks of unemployment. What's that cost you?
18% is high....no doubt.....but do you have anyone else willing to lend you $3000 with no credit check and no collateral to secure the loan? Especially someone willing to suspend your payments for 60 days after you graduate?
In the end the majority of trucking companies pay you back for your entire tuition costs anyways if the school is reasonably priced....including interest....so who cares?
I know it sounds like I'm a sales person for private schools. I just hate hearing the same old worn out rhetoric here about state tech schools. People need to use some critical thinking skills and think about what they're saying.
I know in today's world we are programmed to think more is better.....more weeks of training must mean its better!
But if I can get the exact same job with 3 weeks of training that you got with 6 or 7, I'm doing much better than you and I get out on the road faster.
I don't know about you guys but I hate school.....I don't want to be their longer, I want to be there better.
Any advice about TN Trucking School in Knoxville TN?

Thanks to everyone for your advice. I did check out TN Tech College and it is much cheaper than the other schools in the Knoxville area.
TN Tech total costs were $1393 (for everything).
I received a grant of $667, which brought my total costs for school to $726.
Thanks everyone!

Just an update on the place.... I received an email from them this week since I gave my info to them as an option. but here is the only part of the email that matters. In the end I'm going with Millis Transfer but so the info is on here.
"New Financing Available! We are now doing $500 down with NO credit check, and no payment for 60 days!
Due to us offering the best entry-level training in the industry, our students have gone on to great companies and have received great miles and pay. Because of that our students have been able to pay off their loans faster, which has given us the ability to loosen our requirements."

Are you a veteran? Millis has a low cost program worth looking at but yes you would owe one year. Gotta get experience and should stay with someone at least the first year.
