Yes, if you read any/all CMV police inspection reports, pass or fail, they say they are to be returned to the carrier (your company's safety department) so that they can essentially "acknowledge the inspection action" and sign off on it and return the report back to the state, keeping the driver out of hot water (as is your case)

I got suspended in Va many years ago over a $15.00 ticket. I thought it was BS, and didn't pay it. About 9 years later I got pulled over, and Va had suspended my license over that ticket. I had to post bail or go to jail, which took 10 hours, lucky I had a friend with me on a ride along that was licensed to drive me out of the state, lost my job, had to come back 350 miles to court. cost me $500.00 dollars, plus fees, plus paying the orginal ticket, late fees, and reinstatement fees, and still didn't have a job.

I fought the law, and the law won. Pay attention to those words from an old song.

Furthermore, for future reference to others, if you work for a small fly-by-night outfit, and don't trust the office personnel will properly handle these reports you better forge a signature and handle it yourself or make sure you follow up with whatever "safety dept" you have to insure it gets PROPERLY handled in the time allowed

    $800!!!! I hate California.
    That's ridiculous.
I doubt an attorney could do much about it - its not a moving violation, so I guess they just want their dang money.

Heed the above posts and sort it out ASAP.

Call the court, you can make payments if needed.

DO NOT FORGE any signature or do anything that is considered illegal.

This has to be handled through the company as part of the process and if they are audited and they have NO record of your violations, you can be held liable.

The best thing to do is to copy the violation for your own records, then send the original into the company or fax it to them to a specific person, then follow up to make sure they got it, Noting all of it on the copy (or original if you faxed it) as to who you talked to, when and so on. and if they do not act on it, it is their problem at that point - not yours. As a follow up if you don't trust them, contact the state which issued the violation and ask them to see if they received it from the company. If not, then ask them what to do and document who you talked to, when and so on.

As for the OP, I would contact the OOIDA and talk to their legal advisor to see what can be done to lower the cost.

Remember that this is your CDL and it is your responsibility to follow up on what happens because no job is worth losing your CDL over.
