Their loss is the way i look at it. I'll get it back on the road and run it till the spring and either trade or have it done the way i want it. I should have asked him if that was Jamaican or Columbian he was smokin when he handed me that quote

You can blame that quote on the natural gas fields, I'm surprised they looked at it that quick.

You could have hooked it #### near across the country and likely saved $5000-$6000 on a basic platinum inframe - off an outrageous quote like that. $33k is not far off what a crate motor would have cost, trading in a core, when I priced them.

I beleive that large cost was more than than a crate motor. I'm sure it included everything new including labor to install.
Cat is pricey and they like to replace everything like even the crankshaft.
But as you read, he's not going that route. There is also cheaper routes like a partial rebuild, just can't get the full warranty without doing everything possible.
Did you find out what initially went wrong causing all the damage?

If it was me, I'd have the min. done. (like he is) then get it home, all do the rest at a better time and location.
It's to bad, he was so far from home.

No that was just a motor. I'd get it done right, one time.

The cost was a Platinum kit and adding a new turbo and ecm + labor and shop costs. The cost quoted was 29,010.00 for the in-frame. Add on the core charges for the turbo and ecm that i was keeping and that brought it up to approx 33,000.00

I bought the truck supposedly with a fresh in-frame and have the paperwork for that. Well they never did the in-frame and just put rods and mains in it. Of course the shop that did the work is out of business and so is the company i bought it from. I guess with the high mileage and the program in the ecm, it was bound to happen. I would have never uprated if i knew the in-frame wasn't done. On the bright side, i get to do it the right way.

    That's the spirit !!

Even with receipts, I never believe receipts nor the word of the seller. I would rather buy a all oiginal high mileage truck, then put my time and money into it.

Heck, I don't like buying a car with a fresh paint job. I would rather have the old faded paint and paint it myself :)

    VinceL Thanks this.

I still can't get over that quote. last time I rebuilt a cat it was around 3500. Just can't see how taking it out to have it line bored for a new cam is 30 grand more.

I thought it was pretty insane myself. As soon as i get back to the truck, i'll scan the quote in and post it.
