I sort of don't agree with you, the brains of the entire system is the driver. The components that are important are easy to get, the complexity with the components start with the truck protection valve, the ABS system and the treadle valve.

The confusion with brake chambers is simply there is little about the size, whether it is a standard or long stroke and what is better.

OK to offer some help, here are two links of materials I used to teach people what is what with trucks. If I get someone who thinks that when the power goes out in the area, your electric windows in a car can't work to understand how air brakes work (yes that is true she thought this), any one person can learn how air brakes works - no exceptions.

I have others in my library but these two should get anyone through our test. You may notice that these are Canadian publications and in better detail than any CDL manual we have.

    Johnjohn and briarhopper Thank this.

my method..although time consuming it works wonders..i have applied this to all i do in life..as other drivers have said you need"hands on"..here is what i did many years ago when i did cdl tests..set up a "truck and trailer" in your home using boxes for wheels and kitchen table for truck and trailer..get items in your home and designate them on your "vehicle"..for ex. use a pan for your air compressor..and place it where it needs to go and also write in big letters the name of the part and what it does on a piece of paper..eventually your pieces will interconnect in your mind and you will not only know its function but you will know "blindfolded"where its at on the vehicle..get schematics of systems on websites other drivers have given you here and print it out and put it on a wall so you always have a reference...this also works great with doing a full pre-trip on your cdl test...one final important note..just remember this..this job is all about confidence in yourself..always think i have already passed the test myself,i just need to show someone how i did it..next thing you know you passed and it wasnt that hard..remember,"hands-on" is the best method..good luck driver...
