i will go anywhere for the right money.my preferences are 250 deadhead 1.75 per miles going south or west and 2.5 going norteast and i got my hazmat and twic.i haul anything that pays money.os tarp whatever u throw at me.im not complaining but from my 4 months running for mercer heres my conclusion:northeast is bad area to go to so make sure u get your money going in.sometimes it pays to wait but staying preplanned is the way to go.i sat home one time for a week and still had to deadhead 250 miles to norfolk va for a load to ia paying 2.70 a mile.every driver likes to run a certain way for me i found out that staying in the midwest i can average more than 2.2 a mile but it also means i have to stay out longer and work harder.i wish i found out about mercer years ago.in this 4 months period i was able to rebuild my engine, put 8 tires and rebuilt the driveshaft and still got money left to buy a used trailer.

Got my Christmas card from Mercer on Thanksgiving. I'm tired of Christmas already.

Any Mercer folks have a spreadsheet for operating costs that they mind sharing ?
I'm wanting to do one for myself to see what my numbers will be like ... -
Hey guys, been reading this thread for several months and I'm seriously thinking about leaving Schneider Choice Program for Mercer. I have one major concern. I would prefer going flatbed but I've never pulled flats and I'm 51 years old. I'm in pretty decent shape but I'm not sure if it would be smart to start learning flatbed at my age. I would really appreciate any input from older guys regarding the physical aspect of the job. Thanks!

what does age have to do with it ?
-
I don't know. Maybe it doesn't. I just figured it would be a very physical job (which I certainly could use the exercise).

I'm 45 running with a guy who's 63 we got the same loads on. He got it chained and strapped in less time than I did. And he looks like he just got over a tapeworm treatment. Lolsaab1985 Thanks this.

That's good to hear! Sounds encouraging

We have 35 open deck trucks, with an average driver age of 50. I have several open deck drivers over 60. I have one driver that did open deck into his 70s, but that was a rare situation. If you think you can hack it, I wouldn't be scared.
saab1985 Thanks this.
