    thanks for all the responses.

mje thanks for the insight on Tyson foods but def looking at getting into the oil fields instead

konnan, me99, and cyborgt800 thanks for your input and helpful information

So what kind of jobs should I be putting in apps for if I don't want to get my cdl right away and get if needed later on through the company I work or Texas

I actually found out from my father that a guy he does work for would prob let me borrow his big rig to practice and then go take the cdl test instead of spend the few thousand on the school and the 160 hour training

what are the different jobs I can apply for without a cdl as well as no exp? Ill check out pumpco and frac tech and see what I can find

    thanks fellas and happy thanksgiving,

    Shane

Just like Me99 said, frac companies as well. Get your CDL before or after you come to the oil field. You can get a job here and figure things out as you go. Having a CDL opens the door for all kinds of jobs, even with no experience. Last year I went to ND for a week or so without knowing anything about anything. I found out that having a CDL opens a lot of doors. I went back home and got one. I spent 3 1/2 months with Schneider all for not after getting it. You can get a full time driving job here with no exp, as long as you know where to look.

As far as money goes, those low figures of 35k-40k are for OTR 1st year drivers. I got my CDL in January, started with Schneider Feb 12, quit them May 21. I started with a company May 28. As of right now, I will make 74-80K with the company I am with by the end of the year. That's just over 7 months time. Not to mention the kind of experience you will get. I haul bobtail tankers, transport tankers, trailer houses with a toter truck, skid houses with a winch truck. I don't even have 1 year exp, yet I am more qualified for hauling all sorts of things than most OTR truckers with 40 years of exp.

Any idea of which companies? I have the 160 hours and all endorsements. Clean back round and mvr. Willing to relocate.

Sunoco, but I would choose your area carefully...some areas make you be a temp first and others do not...you do NOT want to be a temp first!!!! Trust me!

What can ya do if that's your only option?? New drivers can't be too picky.

Then be financially prepared to move, make $14/hr for over two months before getting on board and no longer a temp. The temp company doesn't pay OT and you won't get any of your moving reimbursements or advances until two weeks after you're done with your two or more months as a temp.

If you can manage that then go for it.

BTW My checks are supposed to get to me on Saturday...it's Tuesday and I'm still waiting to get it. The check is in the mail....apparently.

Just 2 weeks ago the training was 30 days, now it takes 2 months before you're hired on as an employee? And even still, dude, we're RECENT CDL GRADS, how can you complain being given an opportunity to be making $1300-1700+ a week within 2 months of employment and again, right out of cdl school with NO experience?? It's still paid training, your getting decent hours, and it's just temporary. I just don't get why such a negative attitude towards the whole process. Man ya gotta look at the big picture. In a few months you'll look back and see it was well worth it. I mean, where else you gonna get decent hours and paid training then be pulling home the money you can on the oil fields??? Tell me please, because then we can both go there if this training period is so awful. Geez

They changed the length of time for the temp thing.

The reason I'm irritated is that they sprung this on me for one, secondly they said four weeks and I budgeted for four weeks, I counted on getting OT and that doesn't happen. On top of all of this we haven't been working much at all because of the weather so that puts things even tighter financially. Being a temp means no advance like everyone else gets to help the transition.

So yeah, I'm not a happy camper! I'm sticking it out because I have no other options right now...had I known the true time frames for this whole process, I would have postponed moving until I could save more money...

I can only make sound decisions based on information given...so give me the correct information.
Talking with the DM today, even he admitted that he didn't think many people will sign up knowing what the true timeline is....NICE!

If you don't like my answers stop asking me questions...

Oh c'mon that's not the point here. Was just expressing my opinion on your opinion of the training. All in good nature. Sorry if i got a little testy but the complaining about the training I just didn't completely understand at the time. Good luck and hang in there bro!

No problem ....I'm a bit testy with them right now for many reasons! I'm in a serious bind because of misinformation. A bind I would not have allowed myself to be in if I had accurate info.
