I looked at their site the other day out of interest. I saw the percentage pay vs. mileage pay - and they seemed to be pushing the percentage pay "85% of our drivers prefer the percentage pay" - what gives there??
Why do they offer a choice ? Do you get to see the actual invoices to check you're getting paid correctly?

This is something that is really starting to annoy me. I read through "The Trucker" when it comes out, and look at the ads for drivers, then I'll punch in the company web address and see what I find. I want to know what they pay per mile, how many miles they run you, and fully disclosed benefit costs. Rarely do I find answers.
I hate seeing "Top Industry Pay" then (independent sources), or "Top 5% Industry Pay scale" - one even said "Desirable Income" (!) - What a load of BS. Most want you to call their dopey recruiters to get answers. The other tricks and shell games they present to you in advertising are amusing at best to drivers with some experience - and mis-leading to those new in the industry.
But - good on you for asking these questions. You've found the right place to answer a lot of your questions. But if I see a post from you in a few weeks saying you're going to CR England or CRST, I'll find you, rip both your arms off, and beat you with the soggy ends.

...which is both true and quite pathetic (that they pay that). I started with and work for May Trucking, and (as a newbie) started at .30/mile. (Flatbeds would just be too much hard work for me. I am a pudgy, lazy, 57-year-old.)blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Seamallowance, you're never too old for flatbed unless you have a bad back or knees. I got my load securement training from a 74 year old goat that had retired about ten times but kept finding his way back into a truck.
In my opinion, a lot of the "flatbed is too hard" is overdone. It's more physical than bumping a dock, but I've seen a couple of petite women that handle it just fine. Once you learn the tricks and shortcuts, the hardest part is the mental aspect of figuring out how to secure a load safely and legally.Richter, Shaggy and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
At one time they only had % pay. They bought out another company with /mile pay and then offered it to all drivers. Really, % is way better and you do get to choose. The /mile is just so u can compare to other companies. When with your trainer you will calculate all his loads both ways and then you choose when you get your own truck. You will see % makes your more money for the same loads. If freght rates drop, you can switch back to mileage every few months.blairandgretchen Thanks this.

You don't have to worry about that, I am staying far, far, far away from those crappy companies. My buddy is under contract with CRST and wanted me to team with him and I said, "Hell NO!" I know better than that, I'm leaning toward Maverick, Prime or Howard. Those were the best I found so far.freeranger, Shaggy and blairandgretchen Thank this.
