Its my first night here. Its close to where I have to drop tomorrow morning on Meacham Blvd so, I figured as long as I could get a spot here, I better stay. rather than driving on up to the Pilot & chance not getting a space.
It aint home but its a place to get off the road.... even if they do charge $8 to park..![]()

I don't know why you think you wouldn't make any friends with you comments, Don. You spoke the truth, and if it hurts some feelings, then maybe they are part of the problem.
I used to not drive in adverse conditions, they terrified me. Then one winter I decided I had to do it, because there may not always be somebody there to get me where I needed to go. Rather than let it terrify me, I respected the conditions, and found while it may be stressful to drive in it, as long as I drove at a speed which I felt comfortable with, I never had a problem. It was all the others who terrified me. If I felt I was holding up traffic, I pulled off the road and let them around. I'm not going to risk my life for someone who not only has no regard for their life, but they could care less about mine.
I can almost guarantee there were road reports on the radio warning of possible icy conditions, especially on elevated surfaces, but people tend to disregard those warnings, they are better drivers than all those others on the road, nothing will ever happen to them, they know how to drive on bad roads, etc.
I agree with you completely; it is the DRIVER'S responsibility to take credit/blame for their own actions. -
You can park in the industrial areas off of Meacham... the price is free.Grumppy Thanks this.

That sounds like the first few weeks I lived in Fargo. I was born and raised in Miami. I've driven in bad weather of the heavy rain/wind/street flooding variety, but ice and snow scared the begeebeez out of me, even though I'm a reasonably skilled driver. My 4th or 5th day there (I moved in January), I finally got smart, took my car to an empty parking lot after a light snow and put myself through driving drills for a couple hours.
As for road crews, I know I don't have that much experience with different road crews, but I have to say that, at least while I lived there, the Fargo crews don't play. They're an amazing bunch of hard workers who keep the streets passable so the residents can get home no matter what the conditions. Fargo spends more money per resident for snow removal than almost every other city in the country, so we were pretty spoiled. I imagine that people who live in places that don't budget so well for snow removal have road crews that are at least as hard working, if not harder working, since they don't have the manpower and machinery at their disposal that the Fargo crews have.
Okay, sorry. Rant over. If you can't tell, I loved our road crews up there. -
I wasn't EVEN near to the 8:30 place when they called and said that one is put off until the 5th but do this one instead. Picked up 6 rolls of Cardboard inside 610 and took it to Mont Belvieu.
Then went to the office to turn in paperwork and get what I knew wasn't going to be much of a check. But wonder of wonder the bank cashed it!
Three other runs for four total. Not the WORST Monday ever.... -
Hey NDBADLANDS... Thanks for the comment...
I think there are no bed bugs in the truck.
While truck was at that Freightliner shop, I took all my clothes to a laundry place and almost burnt everything in the dryer. Meticulously and thoroughly cleaned my luggage, shoes and everything that I took to that bug infested room. The exterminator guys said the high heat treatment is the best way to kill those bugs and their eggs. I also sprayed bug killer everywhere, let it sit there for 24 hrs and then thoroughly cleaned truck and inspected every little corner with magnifying glasses... Haven't had any new bug bite since that incident...

NDBADLANDS and teddy_bear6506 Thank this. -
I haven't seen any snow or ice on the road...
so far... After delivery this morning in MA, my DSP got me a load going to GA... same place I was last week. I like these long runs...
I'm at a rest area (as usual) in PA. Will have my warm meal and will rush to bed. Will start driving at 5:30 am central time.
Giggles the Original Thanks this. -
8 loads again today, seems to be my limit at the moment. Trying not to rush to get more as that's a good way to $&?@ up! Got a bit of snow last night and today, it wasn't very cold though so was getting slick around the place by the end of today.
Giggles the Original, Logan76 and Rocks Thank this. -
Rain over Siskiyou tried to become snow...but failed...
made it up to Aurora...now it's a little comfort food and a movie.....might manage to get past the opening credits before the inner eyelid examination begins! -
Yesterday was our first day on just Elogs.... Ran salt to Shawnee, then back to local quarry loaded AB-3 rock, hauled butt for Great Bend. Amazingly that stuff came right out. It usually sticks. However it was in 50's so that helped. Then with 32 mins left before my mandatory DOT break, hauled butt back to Lyons to load. OOPS.... got 0000 left warning just 1 blk before the entrance to the salt mine. So I stopped when I pulled into the entrance, punched Off-duty/Break. I would have made it with a minute or two to spare if it wasn't for the senior citizens joyriding, poking along at 50mph.
I'm getting ready to head back to Shawnee, from there don't know yet. Probably more rock to go west..Rocks Thanks this.
