I doubt you'll make $45k the first year, even as a team.
And you'll find out about team driving with your mentor.
You may find that you like it, or that you would rather be a solo driver.
At least at Swift you have the choice.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
It ain't no way in hell i would voluntary team for one not enough room in the truck, two i can't stand to be around somebody 24/7, three i don't want to sleep while the truck is moving, 4 i don't want to be constantly woke up by the team member talking on phone, opening door, etc. ,5 it ain't enough money in the whole world to make me team, 6 they will give me a stranger to be around if i don't have team member picked already, those are just a few things but u don't no what it is to team til u get on trainers trk do that couple weeks then see if u still want to team. U not gone make no money at swift anyway as a newbie they may start u at .25,.26,.27 mi . I met driver with 5years experience they are paying him .29mi . U got to start some where good luck man ur gonna need it at swift

.29 cpm after 5 years - I'd poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick.
mje Thanks this. -
Get your training, go solo. Do 1 year, keep clean - then go elsewhere where they pay half decent.
Don't lease a truck.
Teaming best with your wife or reaaallllly good friend. -
You can make good money IF you get on the right dedicated account your company has.We did last week 7,423 miles. We are paid .48 cpm = $3,563. We both grossed $1,781. We have now 10 months experience.
Don't do reg OTR. Dedicated OTR is where the money is.
Downside is the truck is moving non-stop but your making $$$ & gaining the experience. -
It could very well be that this particular truck driver, with 5 years experience, was NOT able to find a company to pay him or her what 5 years experience is worth. Good paying jobs are becoming increasingly much more difficult to find. At least the truck driver with 5 years experience, by the GRACE OF GOD, is still gainfully employed.
SADLY and UNFORTUNATELY, the United States of America is still suffering a very serious unemployment and underemployment rate in all 50 states.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.! -
It was an old guy he came around to my trk after i bumped the dock asking what my company pay per mile i told him 1st year at company like me i was at .39 that. Old guy got so mad can swift was paying him .29 and when he looked at majority of his checks it came out to .26 he said they promised him .29 he was pissed at swift then he had not been home in almost a month because swift say no freight going to where he lived i really felt bad for this driver i told him at my company he would be at .43 i showed him in blk & white what he would be getting i asked him did he want number he said NO couldn't believe that one he say he was gonna stick with them and he was gone retire in couple years . Didn't understand that one i don't think he understood he was getting played by swift real hardSiberius Thanks this.

That's the same thing I did when I got started and I made some great money doing it.
As much as I loved teaming, I wouldn't do it with a stranger personally.
