Hey guys, I'm Preston. I currently live in southeastern Kentucky and am in school, as we speak, for the CDL class A. I have longed for this opportunity for quite sometime but have never had the door opened for free training. As easy as it can be for most, I have been turned away a few times in the past because of a couple felony convictions that happened when I was still in my teenage years. Recently, a program here in my home town started offering free grant money for CDL training for laid-off coal miners, and BAM! ... Now, I'm in like flynn! Auger mining the past couple years has paid off. Finishing the school and getting the CDL will be just the first step in a laborious process as I already know that it's not going to be easy for me because of the past mistakes I have made. The stigmata of stupidity doesn't stop at the felonies. I received a DUI back in 2004 ... first and only offense to date. I have been told by some that the age of this could be worked with. So, even at that, I know at this point I'm just getting a foot half-way in the door.
I have heard good things about this website and look forward to using it often. Maybe even land a trucking opportunity by means of it!!! Cheers!

Contact Paschall Truck Lines in Murray, KY. Pretty good dry van company & the trucks have APU's. This company will probably work with you on your bumpy past. Best wishes.

Welcome hobotrucker,
Sounds like you are determined and with your positive attitude, I am sure that you will find away to get your foot in the door. I myself will be starting school next month at community college, so that I don't have to sign my soul over to a company just for schooling, lol. I myself am new to the website and would like to say welcome

Good luck on your test!

THANKS TO ALL YOU GUYS THAT LEFT POSTS:
I passed my test and as chance would have it, ... Chinatown ... I'm headed to PTL for orientation Monday, Jan. 27th. They approved me with the past issues I carry and I'm very excited! I have read both good things and bad things so far on here about PTL, but I'm not too concerned with the bad. I'm just thankful to get the driving opportunity and experience that will come along with it. With the bad things I have read, even if they are true, I do believe I can live with it. I am for the most part, an optimistic feller. Anyhow, I will keep up with this website and post my experiences with PTL quite frequently so that newcomers like myself can maybe know what to expect. Look me up guys on Facebook. Just type in "Henry Hitcher" and you'll find me immediately as I am the only person named that. I have hitchhiked all over the country and figured this name suited me for the world wide web. Cheers! ~Preston .... aka Henry.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Congrats and good luck

Paschall is a good company & their trucks have APU's.
I'm happy to know it's working out for you. You have a good solid career ahead of you now.
Best wishes. -
Thanks Chinatown. So far, I have heard good things from you and just a couple others regarding PTL. Unfortunately, everything else I have read has been negative. I assume you worked there or have valuable insight as to their company. What I've read concerning APU's is a good thing, however, the other forum posts regarding the company has me a little worried. Such as the downtime when waiting for a load (mileage), truck maintenance problems, etc. Do you know any current information concerning these issues? Thanks Again!

Downtime waiting for a load is part of trucking with most companies. It's a good time to take a nap, shower, grocery shop, wash clothes, etc. I read an article a couple months ago about their maintenance problems & they have contracted with some company that routinely checks their trailers at drop lots or terminals all over the nation and brings them up to DOT standards. Don't be concerned about negative comments; 100% of the trucking companies in America will have some that complain. Keep everything in perspective as to why you work there and be reliable and you should do just fine. No trucking company is perfect.
