I can back up what a few people here said about length of training. It doesn't mean much. I had 2 trainers at different companies. All I got from them was hand holding while accruing some driving experience. My backing improved as soon as they were out of the truck, and the other issues I've had since were things they just didn't cover. Try not to settle for some 26 CPM job. You have options, don't settle for Swift or Werner. The first year is about experience, but don't throw money out the window because you decided to go with the first company that responded to you, lol.
Husband takes his Class A next week.. What starter company do you reccommend??

This is a list of "most" of the companies that hire new drivers. Check out their websites, see if you're in their hiring area and go from there. A week is plenty of time to check out which companies you want to apply to, as your husband will most likely have to wait a week or so for his hard copy license before going to orientation. CPM isn't everything when looking for a company, but in general, more CPM is better, so aim for 30 or higher. Ask questions on here, check out their individual forums, but also don't be afraid to call them and talk to a recruiter. Yes, recruiters fib about some things, make a lot of promises, but a lot of the facts you'll want to learn will be things they'll be able to tell you about. Just don't completely trust them about average yearly incomes and promises on hometime, etc.hookham7 Thanks this. -
Watkins and shepherd is a no as well. They said we had to live within 125 miles of there yard. :/ He has something set up with central refrigerated.. but I've heard the worst stories about them. .also they are 28cpm ..

Just saw your location... GTI has a drop yard right by wheelabrator in Anderson. May & Swift have drop yards bit farther to the south (I want to say corning?). Con-way has a freight yard in south Redding that I sometimes park at, although I'd probably park at that mini truck stop by Lake California if I lived in the wood...
