I'm switching to reefer for the upcoming season, but I don't know when is the best time to start. Should I keep driving drive van till march/april or there are enough, well paid refeer loads right now?
Is it too slow at this time of year?

Produce does slow down a bit is time of the year but people eat year round, depending on who you are going to run for you should be ok.

My dispatch said pretty much the same thing, saying he has some brokers with a lot of loads regardless of the season. Just wanted second opinion. Thanks, drive safe.

Things should be starting to pick back up now that holidays are over.

Food has seasons. It also depends where you run. Produce only grows during certain times. Warehouse-to-warehouse is different. There's a big lull after the holidays as there's a huge buildup for Thanksgiving and Christmas (bigger times for people to eat). The rest of the year is fairly consistent.

Lots of freight just don,t expect to get rich running produce right now

Listening to our dispatch, we have loads and not the people to move them. Local slows a bit for us, but the long haul stuff seems to more than make up for it.

I've hauled three dry van loads in a row. It's nice to have that option!

My last two outbound loads from Houston heading north have been freeze protect but basically dry freight paying a reefer rate. At least the cold weather has been good for something. As to keeping busy, I usually expect a slowdown in Jan/Feb but since I got back from vacation the first week of Jan, I've been super busy and rates have been great relative to the time of year. I don't know if it's just dumb luck or my superior planning and business skills but I'll take it!
