Credit unions are the best bet;I belong to 3 of them. If you're a veteran or relative of a veteran then join USAA Credit Union.
blairandgretchen and moneyburner Thank this. -
USAA refunds any ATM fee.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Don't use the truck stop ATMs. Or any if you can help it. I heard casino ATMs were like $10. Talk about a gamble. Most cards use can use as credit/debit anymore. I'm not paying Pilot/TA or Triton $4 for my money.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
If you are at Walmart or most other grocery type stores you can do a debit transaction when buying something and get cash back. Probably not much cash but you don't usually get hit with a fee there.
moosc, CondoCruiser and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
It's rough...merchants have ATM's as a profit center just like a coffee bar. The J will cash your Comdata with fuel for a very small fee..but still a fee.
Try to avoid cash at all, throw the debit card for everything you can until you can hit your bank OR use a mega bank like Chase for you check deposit and atm out of there.
JMOblairandgretchen Thanks this. -
I charged everything. Cash can be obtained by taking "cash back" from CC transactions, and in many cases the ATM next door or across the road from the truck stop charges less for ATM withdrawals. You're banking at the wrong bank, that seems certain.blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Why do you not just get a debit card from the bank? I guess there is a reason behind it.

When you can't avoid those ATM fees, keep-the-receipt and have your tax guy include it with your other business expenses. I learned this from my tax guy, as those fees certainly do add up over a year!

US Bank refunds our end, but we have all our accounts there.
Save the receipts and claim on taxes, both ends.
I carry about $300 in case of emergency each week.
Hate banks. Grrrrrrrrrr.
