What's a good "free" company sponsored training program to go to?

Hello. I'm trying to get a CDL, and I need a bit of help. Last month, I went to Salt Lake City for Central Refrigerated Service's trucking school, but had to go home due to my social security card being too messed up to take the permit test. I have a replacement now. I was about to go to CR England's school in Indiana (Burns Harbor) this coming Sunday but I canceled after reading so many bad things about them. I still want to get a CDL, but I'm not sure if I want to go all the way to Utah again. That was pretty far, and it's expensive if I have to go home on my own dime for any reason.

So that brings me to my next question.

Is there a company that has a school close to me (Cleveland, Ohio) that is "free"? Free as in they will pay for a bus ticket and lodging, like what CRS did for me. I tried Millis but they said can't do anything with me due to my work history. I heard of Roehl but, on their website it says I have to cover lodging. I don't think I can afford that.

Also, can I go back to CRS despite going home?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    Knight!

They're in Indianapolis, I'm scheduled to arrive there this weekend for class start on Monday if I elect to go with them. Bus ticket and hotel is paid for during orientation. They cover lunch while you're there. At end of week (orientation, testings and paperwork) you start training as an EMPLOYEE! Earning $400wk. After your training time is done and you CDL test, your pay is bumped to $600wk until your solo and earning your cpm x miles.

I will add that you do need $100 to cover drug test and DOT Physical. That will be paid ONLY after you have passed drug test and physical and at your interview.

Really? That sounds great. I heard that I would need to already have my permit before I go, though. I could definitely go get one. I'll just study more.

I passed the DOT physical and drug test when I was in Utah, and I have a medical examiner's certificate from it. Would that be valid with Knight?

I'm guessing I could? But that's far. When I had to go home, it cost me almost $300 to get back home. That's too expensive for me.

That's true expensive to get back home. But you should be ok now? Chinatown should have a few good ideas for you.

Your DOT card should be valid especially since it is recent. As for permit, yes they do require that you have one when you arrive.

You should ask CRS if you can come back. Be aware there is no such thing as a free truck driving school. One way or another you'll pay for it. In most cases you'll be locked into a contract to work for the company if it's a company sponsored program, or if it's a school you'll pay for it. The contract with the company will require you to work for them for a set period of time. Should you leave the company before completing the terms, and you fail to pay the "cost of school" they can and will report it to the credit reporting agencies send it to collections just like any other debt. Some companies will also put a negative entry on your DAC report.
Your DOT physical is good anywhere.

Thanks folks. I'll be definitely looking into Knight, and I'm going to give CRS a call to see if I can come back.
