I have been told it depends on the situation and if you are in route etc, I was told about a target driver who was fired 2 years ago for rolling over on the 14 but they said it was because he went out of route without telling people and "put himself in the situation"

if your hitting dangerous winds and weather just pull it over!
better late than never arriving at all

Delivered 3 stores in Kansas tonight from Emporia to Manhattan. The wind was really bad until Kansas City. Having birfday dinner at the Dennys in Peculiar, MO before heading back to the DC.

A wind gust big enough to roll you won't really be a random thing.
You will have been driving in heavy wind with worse gusts before it happens, and will have had some warning as to the dangerous conditions.
We also have a radio with weather channels, which report such things as high wind advisories and wind speeds.
There are also signs that warn of high winds, telling you that high profile or light trailers are not advised when winds are too high.

Driving in such conditions can not be considered safe, by any reasoning.

I was getting blown around quite a bit this morning. As soon as I heard the actual wind speeds of the areas I was heading in to I shut down as soon as I could.
Later I heard that the highway had been shut down due to those winds.

We are expected to be aware of our situation at all times. It is part of the job.
If you don't take steps to stay safe and you get in or cause an accident, how is it unfair that you be held responsible for a preventable accident?

Oh I see, so the driver gets fired and is banned from ever driving again if his truck gets in a windstorm. What if he parks at the truck stop and a big wind comes and blows him over is he fired for that too? What if there is a thunderstorm and a tornado blows him over, fired for that too? Are drivers supposed to stop and pull over every time there is a thunderstorm so they don't get fired I guess. What about lightning? If you are driving and get hit by lightening you get fired for that too cause you weren't aware of your surroundings like you say and pulled off the road to a safe spot? Wow you can get fired in a second in trucking for nothing, what a job.

wyldhourses...if you're sitting in a parking lot, i really doubt they fire you then. there are warnings with all weather conditions. its part of trip planning to check what the weather going to be like b4 you leave. i know weather can change but there warnings in place when it becomes dangerous.

Consider your self lucky. It is a lot better when your own DM hooks up then having to deal with ECT. Then at least you know how to plan. Mine does it all the time. Grabs me a good one usually the first day that I am home, and usually always a great one.

had one of the planners call me up chewing me out asking why my truck is locked, ummm its always locked and he got all pissed off because he was going to have a driver use it. Told him I was told im the only person who uses the truck and that all my personal belongings are in it and he acted like I was a liar asking me who said that bla bla. I have not had to share my truck even once even during the busy December and was told by the other planner that the boss has told them not to use my truck. I know I will not be happy if I have to remove every belonging for a day off every single week. Guess I will speak with the boss in the morning and go from there, if things change I guess I will have to start removing most of the stuff this next week and try to keep minimal. The call made me angry but mostly just the way he decided to talk to me.

Made it to Chicago from Dallas, dropped my trailer on the terminal for an unload/reload. Meanwhile I bobtailed out to one of my favorite truck stops for their extraordinary buffet and tonite's was Mexican spaghetti and pork enchiladas and loaded up on green beans corn mashed potatoes and smothered the whole mess in gravy lol. As an added bonus there was a loud mouthed trucker sitting at the counter spewing his political philosophies.

Anyway heading back home this weekend, 4600 miles turned in this triangle in 9 days. Home/Dallas/Chicago/Home.

Don't get your panties all in a bunch.

You might get fired if you ignore things that are in your control - like parking during a high wind event.
You won't get in any kind of trouble for things that are not in your control - like being parked in a safe place and getting hit by a tornado.
A lightning strike? Doubtful it would happen, but again you have no control over that. You could be hit while driving or parked.
When I am in a severe thunderstorm I have the weather channel on so that if there are tornado warnings I can be somewhat prepared for it. And if it gets really bad I will look for safe parking until it has passed, because even heavy rain can be too dangerous to drive in.

It's just a bit of 'common' sense, after all.
