Per-mile spot market rates in all three segments — flatbed, reefer, van — soared upward in March, according to data released April 1 by loadboard Internet Truckstop. Flatbed and dry van rates hit all-time highs in the time Internet Truckstop has been keeping records, since 2005.

This is the second straight month rates in all three segments surged, coming on the heels of February’s rebounds in rates after each segment saw a small fall in January, likely due to severity of the year’s winter.

No doubt there is a real surge in truck movements lately. Not sure how long it will last. Truck stops are filling up 3 hours before sunset where you used to probably find a parking spot at dusk. Also, lately fuel islands are backed up virtually 24 hours a day too. Obviously business has run down inventories dangerously low but now they have to restock.

I too noticed fuel islands becoming increasingly crowded. One of my biggest peaves is drivers not pulling up and my stress levels have sky rocketed trying to keep my temper in check.

Pretty comical responses after the article. Seems guys like to blame everything under the sun other than themselves for not being successful. Probably couldnt make it at $9/mile.

    General winter/summer cycle.

I liken it to my own personal activity during these times.

Spring summer fall bring construction, hard to pour concrete in freezing temps, likewise roof a house. Roofers need tools, gas, beer - on roll the trucks . . . Pick almost any sector.
