Yes, I too would like to know why the UPS truck was parked on the shoulder, and, if he had his triangles and four ways in use. I'm not excusing the driver that hit him, but let's find out more details.

I am curious about one portion of the story. When I went through training with Averitt this past June, the trainer sat in the passenger seat the entire time. This was not a team driving training method. I did 100% of the driving and all but one backing movement. I was using the facilities and the trainer took care of backing in the truck at that consignee.

Knowing the safety department here and seeing the damage I am almost certain the driver would have been fired as well for that accident.

Well, he talked with a lawyer who told him being he did not receive any physical injuries..he doesn't have a good case. So now he's thinking about going out with another trainer....

Tell him to talk to another attorney. Lawyers are like doctors, you always need to get a second, third, even fourth opinion.

I'm so glad your fried is OK and nobody got hurt and it is a sad reality that even good companies with good training programs do have some bad trainers that slip through the cracks. Don't know if Averitt is one of them or not but it's a big carrier and when you think about it from just a numbers stand point the bigger the company the more trainers and thus more opportunities for a bad apple to be in the barrel. I'm also glad to see your friend got right back on the horse. That's the best way to get over it. One thing good that has come of it (think about the positive), I'll bet you couldn't get your friend to text and drive with a gun to his head and having experienced a bad accident first hand I'll bet he turns out to be helluva safe driver himself and may even get into training one day and become a darned good trainer from having experienced what he has.

All I'll say about lawyers is well no. I'll let that: no I won't. I hope your friend has a wonderful career and gets over this thing quickly. Not so sure a lawyer will help that happen. Kinda in a lawyer's best interest to keep the pain alive and I will hush about that now.

Be safe all and not just driving. Three points of contact and put your stuff down before climbing. Saw a guy go down hard at the fuel island last week. He was hutin' for certain. Don't let that be you. Climb careful.

I personally do not like to see anyone fired. Mistakes happen. A big question is how does someone who makes the big mistakes become a TRAINER.

As to injuries that your friend suffered, I am sure he suffered PTSD as well. He probably has soft tissue damage and possibly a concussion. The fact that they fired the trainer is admitting they did something wrong. Problem is workmens comp. Now if he was a railroader $$$$$$$$$

It's disgusting to most of us on the outside looking in, but I'm sure insurance companies have a dollar value attached to people's lives.

Maiming a kid could result in a lifetime of payouts by the company for medical care, not to mention lost income opportunity (How's Sally going to be a supermodel with a melted face?). It also probably costs them less if you kill an old person or a kid than a young man with 2 kids who is the primary earner for the house.
