Truck smashes into overpass

That's one tough bridge.

 

Well It looks like his trucking days are over.
That sign he passed said 13-3 Just a few
More inches and he was home free...

 

I think the last sign he passed was a 10' 5" height.

 

Most likely he was using a GPS...

People have been smashing trucks into NYC parkway bridges since long before GPS.

They're even nice enough to post warning signs before entering NYC. You almost have to top your trailer on purpose. I'm not talking a little faded sign that would be easily overlooked. "TRUCKERS DO NOT USE PARKWAYS! USE EXPRESSWAYS!.....PARKWAY...BAD! BAD! EXPRESSWAY GOOD!"

This was not NYC it was on Long Island and where the driver entered the parkway was clearly marked, once the bad decision was made he decided to make it worse by hitting the bridge. Had he pulled over the police would have closed the road and helped him get off, he would have been given a summons for unauthorized vehicle on the road but he would have had less trouble than he has now. BTW he made it under to low bridges prior to making contact with the final one.

Sentiment here on LI is getting pretty harsh against truckers and the Governor is actually here proposing new electronic warning systems for entrances on parkways.

 

Im not sure all the fancy signs in the world would help some of these idjits. I like the dope-slap approach myself. Once you enter the parkway system, a mysterious gloved hand reaches out to touch the offending driver in a not-so-subtle manner.....
