From what I saw, the crux of the matter was if you are willing to drive intelligently and safely you won't be a pauper. When Christy added it all up on the board, the opportunity to increase your pay is there if you're willing to work for it.
In any case, I'm screwed and I don't even have any felonies. I have a couple of suspensions for failures to appear so my WIA grant is stalled because the administrator doesn't think i can get a job. In spite of prehire letters, I can't even start class unless I pay for it myself.

That is the KEY phrase right there.... If YOU are willing to work.
-
Carolina Cargo would take you. Call Christy at 803-385-7585 or you can fill out an online application at www.carolinacargo.com. I did it just for a prehire later and was called back within a couple of hours.

All you have is speculation. I've been there. Even at 12.5¢/mi, I was making $600-700/week pre-tax, and that was before Unaffordable Scare.
But you go ahead and listen to the recruiter. Everybody on this board can tell you just how trustworthy they are, as a species. -
So Carolina Cargo is actively recruiting felons and paying them $.10 cpm? That's complete, pure, and unadulterated BS! A good friend of mine spent 4 years in federal prison @ El Reno Oklahoma. He got released and immediately found work in a machine shop. That was 4 years ago and he's still there and bringing home $750 a week in exchange for 40-50 hours per week of his time. I wouldn't even bother with a company like Carolina Cargo....$.10 cpm...SMDH!

Well, Stile, $600 a week exceeds my current monthly income, so I would be happy to be earning that kind of paycheck.
Secondly, I will listen to any and all recruiters as a courtesy, compare notes, do my research and make an informed decision that will be in my best interest.
Lastly, since this thread concerns the slim pickings for felons, it is worth mentioning that Carolina Cargo affords opportunities for them that don't exist elsewhere. I imagine there are some, like me, who would appreciate $600 a week.Chinatown Thanks this. -
EXACTLY! You can make more money delivering Pizza. Being a second chance company is one thing, having slightly lower wages for the risk is one thing, but outright screwing people is another. Record or not, nobody deserves that little money for being on the road.Stile Thanks this.

Like delivering pizza, Carolina Cargo is a stepping stone to get where you want; not meant to be a career. You can't be a brain surgeon by completing one correspondence course; you must take all the steps. For some, life has been rough, so we can't take the same steps others take.missjane Thanks this.

How many felons can walk out of prison and be a machinist? Most machinists wouldn't work for $750 a week take home. Your friend does because that's his opportunity to better himself; he knows that's what he must do for now & later can make much more somewhere else. Same with Carolina Cargo, for some, that's their only hope to get into the trucking job market, no one else will give them a chance. I once worked for 8.5 cpm because that's what I had to do before getting a good job. Started @ 8.5 cpm and eventually wound up making $65K per year at my last company. People laughed at me and called me stupid, but when I asked,"OK, will your company hire me", they said "no, no, they won't hire you, wait a few years." When you have a good job, don't belittle someone else that hasn't gotten there yet. For some it's a little too easy to tell another new driver they would make more flipping burgers. I got the last laugh anyway;some of those smart mouths are suffering now with nothing to show for all those years being super truckers throwing advice around. A couple of them died before they reached 50 yrs. old. I'm still here doing great!missjane Thanks this.

That was just an example Chinatown, and he had no experience in a shop environment. I understand these people have little choice due to their felony records but 10 cpm? Your comparison of earning 8.5 cpm to get started was 30 years ago. Carolina Cargo is exploiting these people because of their situations.
Chinatown Thanks this.
