I had a steer tire that all of a sudden blew and then rolled on pass me. I was going very fast so it wasn't much of a problem.
While first learning to fly Jets at the Air Force Academy, they took you up in an T33 Korean era training jet. I had a tire blow on touch down. Not a fun experience. If you are a flight fan you probably know that the reason there are no longer any super sonic passenger jets is that the Concorde crash was cause by a blown tire.
I wish there was a way for truckers who have blown a tire to safely remove the alligators from the road surface. But I know it is too dangerous. I also would like a highway patrol officer who had the safety of the public in mind to stop and put his lights on and remove them.
For Christmas I want a pony.
Tire blew next to me...

Few days ago had a trailer tire blew. It was loud, loud enough to hear the vibration in the cab. Traffic behind me was stopping to avoid the debris

I had a outside driver side tire blow on me about 2 months ago or so, on an interstate. I had just checked my mirrors to see if someone was passing me, looked back to the road and heard a big explosion. Looked in my mirror again and saw pieces of my shredded tire flying into a schneider truck being passed by a car that was behind me. Luckily they weren't too close behind me when it blew.

Not quite true, according to Wikipedia, what ultimately grounded them was unprofitability. The accident was the only fatal one in the history of the aircraft, and the accident due to a series of human errors.nofilter, OldHasBeen and NavigatorWife Thank this. -

The Concord was not profitable in the beginning. However, in the last years of its life they conducted a survey of the folks who flew as passengers. They asked them what they thought they were paying for the service. None of them knew and they all guess they were paying 10 times what they actually were. So BA and Air France raise the rates to that level. For the last 8 years it was very profitable.
The fuel cost and sonic booms and high cost of maintenance all helped end it. But still, it was beautiful to see.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
We saw a trailer tire blow on a truck a few years back, a new pickup was passing it at the time and ended up with rubber hitting it. Not sure how much damage he ended up with.

Ive had a tire blow out before and Ive seen them blow out on other trucks..Loud and dangerous if 4-wheelers are side riding a truck. Can't stress that enough to the non truckers on this board or anyone else who comes across this thread. Do not side ride a rig, do not tail-gate a rig cause if a tire blows out not only could it cause a wreck, but you could loose the whole side of your car. A blow out could peel your metal like a sardine can. Then its not so funny hopping on a big rigs door. Stay back and stay away from our trucks.

Mine was an inside left front trailer; a huge BANG and then instantly I'm slammed up against my seatbelt and an even huger BANG and stuff I secured with the small bungies went flying. Turns out the first BANG was the blow out then the treadwall grabbed something in the slider pin pulling mechanisms and at 65 the tandems slammed to the back. I feel ya on the duck and WTF. I'm thinking I ran over a car or something. Thank God it was what it was but that was a genuine "Oh S#!+" moment.
bergy and Lux Prometheus Thank this.
