I get up a 3AM at my house in Ingersoll, Ontario to get back on the road with a load to Indy for noon.
I'm at home and I hooked to my trailer yesterday afternoon and did a pre-trip on it. I just didn't want to find a flat tire at 330AM when nobody's in the shop.
I go downstairs to get online to check the status of my shipment with customs (everything has to be pre-approved to cross before you get to the border.) AND THEN...
The shipment has been approved to cross in Buffalo.
#$%^!
That's not right. It's a 4 hour detour. Since it's dispatch that screwed up, I wake one of them up at 315AM.
I call the custom broker to get switched to Port-Huron AND THEN...
I am not allowed to cross before 6AM. FDA stuff has to be given a few hours lead time.
But I'm less than 1.5 hrs from the border. So, even before leaving on time, I know I will be late.
So, anyway, at 6, I'm at the US Custom booth AND THEN...
The officer at the booth sends me to X-Ray. I know I just lost another hour.
I go tru X-Ray AND THEN...
The officer at the X-Ray sends me inside for another level of inspection.
I get inside and, cool, I'm 1st in line, shouldn't take too long.
AND THEN...
I get a trainer and trainee team. I know this will take twice as long.
AND THEN...
They ask me to fill out a little form asking "how much money do you carry?"
"Do you have any fruits and vegetables?", etc.
AND THEN...
They ask me where I'm parked and if my trailer doors are open. They're not, so I get out there and open them, go back inside, give'em my keys and take a seat.
AND THEN, everything was just fine, it's just a training day and I showed up.
Everybody I dealt with was very nice (and I was too) and I understand what they have to do and why. No big deal to me, but I still lost about 4 hours.
AND THEN...
I was still able to deliver AND reload. I'll just get home later than planned tomorrow.
Once in a while I should just go back to bed.
